Updated the seating from three seats in the back facing forward to 7 in the back
1st pic is of the original seats facing forward.
I decided to turn these around facing backwards and then take two sets of troop seats to mount on the sides. I then just added E track so I could add seat belts.

The gray paint in the back is an epoxy coat over top of 1 layer of POR 15 then 2 layers of Spectrum by Second Skin sound deading material.

Next upgrades to include custom front bumper to mount my winch to, over sized fuel cell and an additional Jerry can holder on the back of the truck

Note there is already one under the truck next to the side door.

I am going with my son in August to the yucatan peninsulafor 26 days, leaving from Tacoma WA.
I will be fashoning rack brackets on each side to string Hennesy expedition hammocks from front to back.
Inside just an addition of an electric cooler

Other then the big TRIP, I am using it monthly to transport some of my sons Boy Scout troop deep into the woods.

No better purpose than that, they are only young for so many years.

How heavy of a load can the raingutter mounts hold??

Westernair
05-31-2011, 09:51 PM
Not sure but 500 lbs of people on the roof don't seem to be a problem. I made 4 more legs for the rack to better distribute the weight, just need to weld them on if it becomes neccessary. They are made out of 4" x 1/4" bar stock with .120" clamps

Steve, didn't know you you were over here as well.

for those that don't know 6x6, Mr. Dilley is a pioneer when it comes to Pinzgauers. The mods on his current truck are extensive.

So can you tell me about these vehicles and their history? I'm not familiar with them but have heard of the name. Anyway looks like a great rig for long and remote trips.

There are a few hunderd (I belive) in the contry, with parts being available through a few US sorces. Great rigs for off roading right out of the box. Plus with seating for upto 14 they make great rigs for haulling people out into the dirt as well. The 710 Models like mine are smaller in foot print then a VW bus so they are right at home in the Urban jungle as well.
The 6x6's are a little longer but also easly streatable. Biggest down fall for new owners with these trucks, is that the stock top speed is only about 65MPH.

and expensive to fix....when I did the clutch in my old 6x6 (2004) it was over $700 in parts from SAV. Easiest clutch I ever changed though!!

They also have horrible axle articulation.

What I disliked about mine...

loud
cold
crappy wheel articulation
slow
expensive

What I liked about it....

EVERYTHING ELSE!!

You are in for a trip to the Yucatan in a Pinz. I have driven to Panama 2x, in a much more modern and comforable truck. I would not want to do that drive ina Pinz but that is just me! It will be fun for sure! I hope you know what you are getting into?

It would appear that the two know each other and are friends and the OP doesn't have an issue with it.... just saying maybe you should STFU:shaking:

Speaking of Griots, if you have not left by the 14th of August, stop by Griot's with the Pinz.
I will be there all day long for a Toyota event I entered, would enjoy seeing your Pinz.
That is a really sweet rig.

I take it also that you are a Griots fan, you might say I am too (http://www.pnw4runners.com/pics/bos_7_2_2011/1.jpg) :D

been awile sine I have been online. Yes we went over steel pass, and no AC...
I have since sold the truck and purchased the big brother, a 712M. This is a big upgrade in my opinion and will be a great project to build up.
