What axles came in the 1989 F150 (2 wheel & 4WD)

and the F250's?

Thanks,

F-150 2wd rear should be a Ford 8.8

F-150 4wd front TTB dana 44 with coils, rear Ford 8.8

F-250 4wd front TTB dana 44 with leafs instead of coils, rear dana 60 or a sterling maybe? not real sure on the rear. Maybe both.

F-250 2wd rear should be the same as 4wd

Thanks for the quick update. I'm going to looke at a pickup in the morning. It's a killer deal and the motor is my draw, but at least one 60 would be nice! What's a Sterling? Never heard or seen that.

Sterling 10.25".
Similar in strength to a Dana70.

I don't know the starting year(s) for it although I'm pretty sure it was in the '80s sometime. A '89 should have this axle.

If its a F-250HD, it will most likely have a Dana50 (TTB) front with leaf springs.

I guess I need to do some late night Ford axle studying :-)

Thanks guys. The motor is really what I'm after in the truck, but the bonus of good axles is just that - a bonus.

The F250's can have a couple of different axles, depending on the GVWR. The light duty's had a TTB D44 front and semi floating D60. The HD's had the TTB D50 front with either a full floater D60 or 10.25. What motor does it have? If it has the 460 or diesel, it's a HD.

Not necessarily, there's no rhyme or reason to which F-250's has the TTB D44HD or TTB D50. It depended on what the owner ordered when he/she bought it from the factory, not what engine it has in it.

BTW, there was no rear 60 after 1985. It'll either have a semi float 10.25 or a full float 10.25, again depends on what the owner ordered.
