Ok bash the newbe. I am loking for advice on combonations. I have a 74 ford bronco. I am starting a build up. Its allready down to the frame. Here is what I have to start with. Stock front and rear axles with posi track(both) and a 351 modified. What would be a good combo transmission and transfer case. I am using the 351 cause thats all I got. Current gears in the axles are 3.5 I plan on changing. Can I keep the posi and still change the gears?
lemme have it..;)

If you aren't running lockers in an eb you are probably on the wrong site.

But I gotta learn some where. Befor I leave can I ask a question I found this "nv4500 and c6" would you/ could you tell me if this will work. and sorry to have to learn on yalls forum. Thanks anyway

dont be so sensitive. help me out. bash me if ya want. but at least help me out. I am just starting to put this thing togather I dont know what I am going to end up with. If your suggesting I us lockers that fine. point taken. I just might. What would you suggest, air, electric, cable, vacume, heck I aint got that far I neeed a transmission and transfer case first. next youll suggest Alloy Axles w/ Full Circle Clips. But lemme get the transmission and transfer case first. suggestions

A modified has a big block bolt pattern . Ford has small and big pattern . You could probably find a good c6 or a 435 (4 sp with granny gear or granny tranny) . Out of a 77 thru 82 f150 0r bronco . Most of these 4x4s had 351m or 400ms . A 205 transfer case will bolt right up to them . If i were you i would start thinking of ditching the modiefide . They are pretty torqey but they have sorry oiling systems , and they tend to over heat easaly . IN an early bronco the small radiator space will be an issue. I would just save my pennys and get a windsor or 302 . Iam not sure a modified will fitt in the engine bay .

I agree with what leehall has to say. The 351M has its place, but overall it is a sorry motor. You can easily get the same horespower and torque from a 302 just by starting the motor. The 351M has a problem with blocks cracking in the lifter valley (pre-77) and also pounding out its main bearings. There are a few aftermarket offerings for this motor, however they are mostly based on the 351C which hasn't been made since 1974. Do yourself a favor and find a 351W to build instead. Finding a 4wd C6 or a NP435 belhousing to fit a 351W will prove to be a little bit more of a challenge to find (based on my experience) but they are out there. Your best bet to find what you need would be to check out the mid 80's full size broncos. Shy away from the overdrive trannies. As tempting as it sounds to have an overdrive, unless it is built up properly, it stands a good chance of going up in a ball of smoke the first few times you are not nice to it.

Nick there is a site that does welcome "Newbies" and has quite a bit of information on how to go about what you are trying to do. Its www.classicbroncos.com. Their expert advice on Ford drivelines so far has been the best I have found regarding Broncos. There is by far more experience on that site than I have found anywhere else. Oh, by the way, don't let my newbie status on the site fool you - I just use this site to find parts

I'll second that Waverous. Classicbroncos is the place to go if you want help but don't want to deal with "stupid Newbie this" and "fawk that".

I'am not sure of the other years, but a 1983 big bronco or f-series truck could be had with a c-6 and a 351w,so I would check the local junk yards for this comb. Not meaning to cut down the "m" motor I think it would be great for a planter or maybe a mail box stand:D

I would drop in a 351W, atlas 2, front and rear dana 60's with 5.38 gears, spooled rear, detroit front on 42" tsl's. As little sheet metal as possible. 4 link coilovers blah blah blah. Do you get the idea? :flipoff2:
