Has anyone tried the fabritech sas for a first gen. explorer. If so how does it do off road as far as flex and axle control? Thinking of going this route if it's worth it but if not i'll just keep my ttb and lift it that way, i'm only wanting 35s nothing bigger. I don't wheel real hard right now but also i'm still stock except for 31's too.

The kit seems kind of expensive to me for what you get. do a search on this board, www.explorerforum.com and www.rrorc bullitain boards for info on how to do it using mostly junkyard parts.

from what i read it uses f 150 d44 axle built to what you want but i think they want like 2-3k$ for the kit. that's why i was thinking of sticking with my ttb and saving the extra 2000 and get lockers or something. i know the ttb isn't as strong but it will hold 35's ok.

The Dana35 TTB is actually quite strong (it has bigger axlejoints than a stock eB Dana44).
Its the cheap-ass lift brackets flooding the market that are weak.
The Skyjacker Class2 kit is one of the only two I know of that have strong brackets (James Duff is the other, but they top out at 3" lift). The TTB beams can be further strengthened by boxing up the open backsides, as well. If you lift the TTB, use the Class2 kit.
Do use 15X8 wheels, though. The wheelbearings on the D35 don't take well to 15X10s or wider.
The Fabritech setup is definately WAY overpriced (If it included the new axle, it wouldn't be so bad)
You can swap a used eB axle under the Explorer/Ranger pretty easily if you can fab and weld up a trackbar mount for it. Radius arm mounts can be sourced from an F-150.

i know that every one has problems with the superlift but i was thinking about going with the 6'' and just strengthening all the drop down brackets and hopefully that will keep them from breaking. i,ve heard about a 50 - 50 good and bad reports on superlift so i figured i'll try it for myself and see

just went to national tire and wheel and does anybody know if the 8'' class 1 will work on the xplorer?

Dude, don't even think about a Superlift TTB kit. They are about bottom of the barrel for durability/performance. Beefing it up may help durability, but will do nothing for its performance.
The superstiff coils and that shitty "plate" drop-down bracket will not allow any flex without putting a big hole in your diff housing.
You want the Class2 Skyjacker. The Skyjacker Class1 isn't too bad IF you get it with the "heavy-duty" brackets, but you'll have a bit less flex and control.
I would stay away from the 8", only because getting the tierod angles within reason is almost impossible. If you want 8" or more lift, you'll have much better steering control with a straight axle under there.
8" is too tall IMO for any real trail work, anyway

oh i know i want sas but i don't have the tools or the experience to do though.i have only major hand tools no torche or welder and mainly experience on this stuff. that's why i was considering fabritech but not for that price. i want 35s so i'll get the skyjacker class2 6'' and a 3'' body and be on my way.

The fabritech kit for the Ranger/explorer comes with and EB axle which is completely rebuilt, basically the only used part is the housing.
