I'm going to do my own siping this time, so I'm in the market for a hot knife........not a groover......although don't some tools do both?

Which brand?
Cost?
Where to buy?

I've been searching around a bit, and that seems to be the most popular knife out there.....In fact, I havent' seen another brand yet.

The real question is who has the best deal at the moment.

i went ahead w/ this route---seems like the best for the money---i havn't gotten the tires to actually use it so i dont know how good it really is.

Don't need a plan for siping.....there is a big difference. I'm just sick of the tire shops screwing up the siping. The tool will definately pay for itself.

If you're only going to groove a set or two of tires per year, the Ideal Tire knife (seach on Google for that) will get you by.

If you just want to SIPE tires, all you need is a warm day with the tires in the sun, a utility knife, and a ruler.

I used one of those utility knives where you break the blade off in 1/4" segments as it gets dull... they click out in ~1/4" adjustment - perfect for putting a 1/4" deep sipe into the tread on my MT/Rs.

I won't waste time doing it again. Couldn't tell the difference either way, and grooving on my next set of tires (TSLs) made a world of difference. From now on, I'm grooving my tires. Screw siping.

I've done the utility knife thing before.......I quit after two tires.

If you lived up here in the PNW, you'd probably feel a little different about siping.

Here in the NW, most local tire shops will sipe them correctly in about 30 minutes for 10 bucks each. Do them incorrectly at home and it's a waste of your time.
