: Mine hase been stolen, need new platform
arik2 11-30-2002, 02:04 PM Hey friends,
here goes my story, till couple of weeks ago, I had a local made Jeep YJ, its mod's were d60 rear, d30 front, procomp 4", RS9000, rear locker Detroit locker, front locker - a broken gearless, 33" MTR with AR 8", WB 104", 2" body lift and a lot of goodies such as compressor; 2 toolboxes, highlift, a hell of a lot spare parts, CB, etc...
It was always ready and equipped for the weekend "trips"...
attached a link with some photo's though the language is hebrew.

Anyway, now it gone...and I'm looking for a new platform and this is my question:
I'm looking for vehicle with front d44 or an other one that a replacement of the front axle will be the easy one. the vehicle will be a second vehicle only for the weekend but here in Israel, we have lot of problems with the authorities...cups etc.. specially with jeeps (YJ \ CJ's)
its hard to find here International Harvester; old XJ, old bronco, vagoneer etc...
I have two option in mind:
1. 104" crappy YJ (92-94) that will be equipped with 92 path4x4 (vandura 4x4) driveterrain - gm14 bolt rear and d44 front; 4.1 ratio, V8, automatic gear etc..
2. 104" CJ equipped with an old blazer (79) driveterrain - gm12 bolt rear (will be canged) and d44 front, V8, manual gear etc...
do you guys can think of more apllications that i can use ?
thanx in advance..
Arik.
road1will 11-30-2002, 02:21 PM look around for land cruisers or old land rovers.
both are tough rigs that would last, the rover would require an axles swap off the bat though.
sorry to hear about your jeep :(
FourPlay420 11-30-2002, 02:29 PM welcome newbie!
:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
BigFatIronPig 11-30-2002, 02:55 PM i would look for an older land cruiser. (at least 20 years old)
There is only one problem, there are no old Toyota’s or land rover’s in this place
The only options are
An old cj or yj, both from the army
Or full size like blazer
Sharp 11-30-2002, 03:12 PM in those parts look for a land cruiser or a mog!!:D
hy_desert_4wheeler 11-30-2002, 05:14 PM Over there I would look for an old UN or MFO Blazer or Yukon..
Gwamp 11-30-2002, 05:40 PM How about a 74-83 Jeep Cherokee. D-44's front and rear. 258, 360, and 401(up till 79) for motor options
RedBullJeep 11-30-2002, 05:54 PM Sorry to see your Jeep was stolen...It looked great!
As for a replacement, if you still have spare parts around for the original rig, wouldn't it be smarter to start on something that is similar? Plus you already have the knowledge of the machine and it's always much easier to do it the second time.
Just my idea and I can't recommend something as I have no clue what is available and easily repairable over in Isreal.
UZI 9mm 11-30-2002, 06:51 PM ask Barry (also known as "the frog") he's from Tel Aviv ;)

arik2 12-01-2002, 01:42 AM Well guys,
Thanx for your answers till now,
An old cruisers and old rovers are hard to find here...so probably this option is down...
I'm seeking for an old Cherokee already but its a rare vehicle and its prices touching the sky...
As for you, RedBullJeep, I thought about it already, and looking backward, with my old YJ, I was kinda stucked with the front axle because its hard to find front d44 with the diff in the right side...
though in CJ i can find a lot of d44 front which will be applicable but when I'm looking on its chassis I think its weaker then the YJ's ...
More then this, I will face some problems with the low, having a 16" rims with 8 bolts (traffic cups are "killing" us here)...
probably I have not much choices beside using my 1st option...
UZI 9mm, I know barry...respect him, but I dont have the budget or the sponsors...
Thanx Again...
Gwamp 12-01-2002, 02:00 AM Is buying something from the states and having it shipped over within your budget? You can pick up a running Cherokee for $500-1000.(or less if you shop around) Just a thought.
FourPlay420 12-01-2002, 02:23 AM I say, buy another Yj... start over again and do everything you did wrong and that your regret ,the right way i mean obviously you know the basics
:flipoff2:
arik2 12-01-2002, 02:44 AM Well, I'm starting to think about it right now...
though, my budget runs around the 2-2.5K$ for the beginning and slowly slowly getting forward...
I can find down here an 79 Blazer without body but running in 700$ or path4x4 91 in 1.6K$ running...
YJ 94 cost here around 6.5K$ and 89-90 CJ (which been continue their local production here till 91) in 3K$.
I can purchase a vehicle in the states on the follows condition:
1. up to two years on the road (out of budget)
2. more then 28-30 years on the road as a "collection" vehicle with full road lisence.
does the 74 cherokee (the first model) had a lot of maintenance problems ?
Gwamp 12-01-2002, 04:08 AM the 74's have no more issues than any other vehicle of that age. The biggest drawback that I can see is that they only made a little over 14,000 Cherokees that year and it may take some time to find one. If you follow the link in my sig to the IFSJA, there is a wealth of info on FSJ's. There is a message forum similar to this one and a buy/sell area to post your needs.
arik2 12-02-2002, 02:59 AM After more "office work" I received the info which says that if I wanna import one from the states, it has to be up to 1973... what are my options, if there are any ?
Or it might be better to buy both 104" YJ in 2.5 K$ adding Path4x4 with GM14 bolt rear, D44 front, V8 350, tranny & automatic gear in 1.5K$ and build a vehicle based on the YJ chassis and the Path4x4 driveterrain ?
For those of you who doesnt know what is the Path4x4, hereunder there is a link to some pic's
Arik2.
