I have seen some axles that have planetary hubs, not portals but rather an extreme reduction . . . like 13:1 overall. Anyone have any links or such as to where to start looking?

there is a guy here in australia that has made his own hub reduction.
Try searching for the thread on the aussie tuff truck comp. There were pics of it there. It is a white landcruiser tray back the owners name is glen dobbin

I read that Boyce Equipment has 3:1 planetaries for the 5 ton rockwell. Can anybody confirm this?

anybody that builds for monster trucks can accomodate what you need. They use the planetary sets because they can take the abuse of landing without snapping shafts instantly. Saw it on a Bigfoot special :D
