Our 23rd annual Poker run is the weekend of Aug 20-21, 2011.
This is our clubs sole fundraising event and as a non-profit we donate the proceeds to many local organizations and also to national land use organizations.

sounds fun, i am located in south lake and would like to get connected with you and your club. I would love to help out on trail runs, maintenance, and clean ups. The poker run sounds fun, but I have a trailer queen rig. How much street time is involved in this run.

Dallas,
We are always welcoming new members, so please stop by a meeting and introduce yourself. The info on meetings and planned runs are on our website. We do a lot of work on the Rubicon trail, and also down at Rubicon springs.

We run the Deer Valley trail from north to south, and take hiway 4 back to main camp (about an hour on pavement, but prolly not more than 30 miles). And in the morning it's about an hour drive from main camp to the trailhead at Blue Lakes.

I went on this run with the Napa Valley Jeepers in 2003, or maybe 2002, I can't remember for sure. It was my very first 4wheeling experience (driving). I did it in a Dodge Raider that was stock except for some 31" Maxxis Buckshot tires I had installed for the trip. (I guess the tire requirement has changed since then!) The trail was run South to North that year so it was a bit of a challenge, but I made it (with a couple of tugs). The next time I did it was in 2008. On that trip I had been out wheeling for two weeks straight. A buddy of mine and I hit up 5 Sierra trails, (Fordyce, Rubicon, Dusy-Ershim, Barney Riley, Deer Valley for the Poker Run, in that order). We called it the, "Tour-De-Sierra". I haven't been wheeling in almost two years! My 4runner has been parked collecting dust. I have been getting the itch though lately real bad. Maybe I'll do this trip again this year to get myself back in to the swing of things. The Hi-Lo's club puts on a great run!

Thanks for the kind words!

That "Sierra Nevada Grand Slam" sounds like an awesome trip. Gotta put that on the bucket list.

Printed the registration form tonight. If all goes according to plan, I'll be there with one passenger. Hopefully we'll leave early enough on Friday to hit up the Barney Riley trail again in the afternoon! Looking forward to another fun trip! I'm glad you posted on here, I probably would not have thought about it if you didn't.

Pre-ran the trail yesterday. It is a little rougher than last year. All the extra water from the melt made the rocks grow a little bigger!

People can register at the door (so to speak) as it's too late for snail mail. Next year we want to have a paypal acct. for the strictly digital crowd.

Well, I'm glad I went. I was the guy in the grey 4runner with the bright orange roll bar and the non-removable mud flaps. You guys cook a mean steak! My buddy bailed on me at the last minute so I had two meal tickets and ate both of those things! Thanks again to your club. Hopefully I'll be there again next year.
