I need to know the OD of the tie rod on a TJ. We are running the con thjis weekend and the only way my buddy will go is if I get him a sleeve for his tie rod itself. Can anyone let me know this?

Ok, I took a string and got the circumference which was 3". Divide by pi gives the diameter, which came out to .955"

Get a second opinion <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

Oh. I guess you don't need a super exact measurement for a sleeve. I would guess 1" ID would be OK and do the trick.

34.8" total length of the tie rod, but you'll have to subtract 1" or so from each end for the clamps...

BAJG, I got one here for you, it will only cost you $8000, and you get a Jeep and trailer with it <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

you might tell him to try this out.

ZJ to TJ tierod conversion (http://www.stu-offroad.com/misc/tierod-1.htm)

that uses all common parts with no fabbing and good junkyard availability.

The V8 ZJ rod is a good conversion. Beefy ends even. Keep in mind it might not fit though if you have some sort of diff protection because it's bent down, not straight across.
