Got a 302 with a C-4 behind it from a '66 mustang for free, what do I have to do to put a t-case behind the C-4, also what would be a good t-case to use? I have used the search button but not alot of luck. Thanks

Are you sure it's a 302? 66 mustang would be a 289. And I believe early 289s had a slightly different bellhousing bolt pattern. I could be wrong though.

302 or 289 , it wil still be the same bolt pattern, as the early five bolt pattern was used on 221s, 260s and very early 289s up until 1965, when all small blocks went to the current six bolt bellhousing.

You'll be finding a truck C4 at a junk yard to use as a donor for the tailshaft/housing or you'll be buying the Advance Adapter kit.. either way, you'll find out the fun way that the tail shaft comes out the front of the tranny :)

I'm sure Ford bolted tons of different t-cases behind C4's.. most people here probably run Dana20's though.

You never told us what it would be going in.. if it's long enough.. you could run a divorced t-case :flipoff2:

And the governer body will fit thru the tail shaft support... how? It's been awhile since I rebuilt a C4, so maybe I'm stuck in my C6 thoughts.

The only 4wd C4 that I know of is the one from a Shoebox Bronco.

Your best bet would be to find the whole thing from a EB. That way you get the deeper pan, and the transfere case. You can convert yours useing adapters from AA or stock ford parts. If you are not worried about have the D20 on the back. You can use BII or Ranger parts to convert it.

Ya you guys are right, a 289 did come in a '66 mustang, but this guy i know put a 302 in it. Don't ask me why. You Ford guys will like this, but I'm putting the 302/c-4/D20 and Dana 44 and Ford 9" all in a little ol' suzuki samaria that I also picked up for free. I will be giving it a little more stance by lengthening the wheel base by 10" or so.

About the C-4 all I need is a truck C-4 for the tailshaft and housing? So the truck needs to be four wheel drive eh.
Thanks :D
