I'm looking to buy a tbi 350 for a project, so i call this guy who's selling an 87 3/4 ton 4x4 chevy, he does'nt seem to know much about cars in general, but swears it has a carburator on it. I've always thought that 87 was the first year of TBI on the 350's sold in trucks, I've owned two 87's that were both TBI's. Is it possible this guy is so lame that he thinks a throttle body is a carb, or did they sell some trucks in 87 with carbs? Or maybe some clown just swapped the motor out, but then that would have caused computer problems I would guess!

You're right, 87 is the first year for TBI. While I've never seen one I've heard that there were still carb'd trucks built in 87. I don't know what the rhyme or reason was to get a carb'd truck though.

I'd bet he thinks the tbi is a carb

I've had more than one person ask me what Carb I had on my 89. When I tell them it's FI, they usually do one of two things, accept an explanation or call me an idiot. I'd go check the thing out. You'de get some decent parts from the truck, but it's very possible sombody swapped out the TBI for a carb. Too many folks don't know hoe good TBI is and swap to a carb first chance they get.

Have you guys ever seen one of the chevy or gmc trucks driving around with the W/T on the tailgate? They made those trucks up through '90 or '91 and they are all carbed trucks. The W/T on the tailgate is the indicator that it is a carburated truck and not FI with a Throttle body.

In '87, Chevy made both the old AND new truck styles.
My boss had an '87 chevy like my '86, and his brother had an '87 like his nieghbors '89.
Plus, my wife's cousin has a Chevy poster in his garage that actually has a bunch of truck pics in assending order with their years, and it has 2 '87 truck pics.(both)

There were NO '87 model year trucks built with the '88 - '98 body style. It could have been built in '87, but it would be an '88 model.
