well i am planning on doing a decent build on my new trooper but im a beginner at 4x4s, ive always had cars (have had 4wheelers for many years so im not a TOTAL noob). anyways ive got a couple questions.

i would like a 2-4 inch suspension lift but idk what brand or what else would be needed to do this.

what is SAS?

anything else i should do to make this a decent rig, besides tires because i know about getting taller ones.

thanks

Well first off welcome to the world 4wheeling! 4 wheelers and 4x4's are a different world in my opinion.

Check out Independent4x.com for trooper lifts. There's no other brand out there besides that one. You can run 33's on stock suspension. Also come visit planetisuzoo.com for all your isuzu needs!

SAS = Solid Axle Swap...which means you cut out all the IFS stuff that troopers have (also other 4x4's do as well) and put a solid axle under it from an older 4x4. That's a little much if you are just getting into 4x4's.

Best thing is to do all the research you can possibly do before you make a choice!

Just dont fool yourself. If your gonna get serious with anything other than desert/sand than do the research to SAS the truck.

Hell Im building my trooper into an expo rig on 34s and I plan on solid axle swapping it...

Welcome to the madness!! You will have a blast building and wheeling your rig. But I would also agree that doing research on build options and parts is a good start. Also talk to as many folks as possible and also be thinking about mods that you might want to do later. I did a SAS with a three link, panhard, and full hydro on a 92 Rodeo and it is quite an undertaking! It was fun building it,but I wouldn't recommend an SAS for your first project.

If you want to go hardcore rock crawling than yes, SAS will be your best bet. But you can have a ton of fun without going SAS. I have done difficult trails like Golden Spike, Metal Masher, Cliffhanger etc. in Moab with IFS. Crawler gears and lockers are your friends.

It would be helpful to know what year, etc. of this trooper. It makes a big difference!
I tend to agree with Steve on this one. My SAS dual case engine swapped, etc, etc. rig sits most of the time now. My mostly stock trooper gets used a lot and keeps on going.
I would recomend fixing what needs to be fixed. Get some decent tires, and go have a blast with it.
