Ya'll probably read about my experience with the recent smog check on my 85 4runner. Failed first time for high NOX at 15 mph, passed at 25 mph. I cleaned out the EGR valve and adjusted timing. Everything except NOX was really clean.

Passed the next day. :D However, NOX was still high and barely under the max limit. Smog guy told me it was my free flowing exhaust. (LC header, 2 chamber flowmaster, 2 1/2" pipes) Whatever, I'm good for another two years. :flipoff2:

Well, yesterday I pulled the beast out to see if I could find why the EGR didn't seem to be working at all. First thing I see is the vacuum line to the EGR valve was NOT CONNECTED. I guess when I cleaned the EGR valve, I got everything back together but missed that one critical last vacuum line. What a dumbass, eh? Must be gettin old or something. :D

Moral of the story is, tag all your vacuum lines, etc and go over everything several times before you close the hood. Make sure you PLUG ALL THE VACUUM LINES BACK IN THEIR PROPER PLACE. :emb::rolleyes:
