OK, some have been seen, and I'm still working on aranging them, but here are all the pics I've gotten from the November "club" run couple weeks ago. Had a great time, maybe Pat will start a write up someday so I can be inspired to finish it for him :D

good turn out for a NW Binder's run:

3 SII's
1 POS SSII that broke after the first obstical :flipoff2:
1 Traveler
1 bone stock 800 :D
2 Jeeps
1 Zuk
2 Toys

3 of the Scouts made it over the wall un-assisted, and my buddy Phil in his Toy, everyone else had to be winched.

LOL. Just finished putting the rear end back together. Need to add some fluids, do the brakes, pack the rear bearings, and bolt it back together.

Writeup, oh yeah.

Well, I climbed the wall. I broke. I went home.

Mark did OK, but would do better if he dumped that stupid RS suspension. :D :D :D

Odd thing though, after taking the lockright apart, I can't find where it is damaged. What I thought was burned up teeth was not. Teeth look great. I can hardly see any wear on them at all. Can't figure out why it kept opening up on me... Only thing I can think of is that *something* lodged between the side gears and center and would not let it fully engage.

Did it shear the pins or anything? Maybe the springs are just trashed....maybe the carrier has flexed and cracked???? Might just need new thrust washers.....

Springs are still nice and stiff. Thrust washers look just like they did when I put them in. Pins are intact and showing no wear. I checked the carrier over closely, if it is cracked, I couldn't see where. Fit snugly into the housing (shop set up the rear diff about 2 years ago) had to pry it out, so the sideload seems about right,

Only thing that makes sense is that something was in one of the slots the teeth go into, not letting it fully engage. It was a pretty wicked slamming sound when it released and reengaged though.

Have to decide what to do with it now. I'm reluctant to put it in the front, because of all the effort that would take. Taking apart the front hubs, etc, is a lot of work.. and since I will be going to lower gears this spring, it does not seem worth the effort. And, it won't work with my lower gears.

so, DK what I will do with it.

Sure about that, Pat? The *Lockright* will work with your lower gears, though you'll need a new carrier.

The front is only 16 hex screws and 16 nuts.... and 4 big nuts. Really not much harder than 8 nuts for the rear.....

Do it!!! You know you want a locked front end....

And your lockright will work with any d44 open carrier regardless of gears. Mine has seen 3.73, 3.07, 3.54 and now 4.27 gears.

not really.. its more like:

10 big nuts
12 little allen screws
2 snap rings
2 PITA round snap rings
4 BIG nuts
2 caliper screws
2 caliper wedges
16 locknuts and washers
1, 2 or 3 cotter pins and castle nuts, and a TRE (or 2 or 3)
10 bolts
4 bigger bolts
prybar(s).......

what a PITA...

:D

Ok - OK - So I can't count and I forgot a ton of stuff.... But really for a locker!!! Well worth the effort.

But maybe it is that mentaility that has lead me to take my lockright in and out too many times to count......

I replaced the U-joint and all the bearing on the passenger front of my Scout and I've been too damn lazy to do the driver's side yet. It IS a serious ass pain.

Oh. In that case, I better figure out if it works. Guess I'll start tearing the front end apart

Warn internal spline locking hubs. How does that change the equation? I put em on, but I have not taken them off. Seems like there were fewer pcs to them.

Lets see my list.

8 or so little hex screws.
One big snap ring
I forgot the rest of what is in the hub.
brake caliper lock hex screw
brake caliper slide
Jam nut
washer
inner bearing nut.
Off comes the rotor, and hope that it pulls off without popping the inner oil seal off
8 spindle nuts
pop off the caliper
pop off the spindle
pull the ujoint, and hope the caps have not walked out

Repeat for the passenger side
4 Bearing cap bolts

<sigh>

Maybe I will just wait till I am putting in the new gears and put it all together then...

Course, if it still does not work at that point, I will have to tear it all apart again,

A little lacking in ambition this morning. My youngest caught a chest cold so we all got to stay up all night...

Aw heck, lockers are over rated. My LS up front is doing well enough for now, and I doubt I will hit anything hard enough to need more than that before spring...

Yeah, the pictures are cool.

New 35mm or new digi?

We're happy with Michelle's new Kodak 3900 (IIRC). 2x optical zoom, 3MP, multi-snapshot feature (or whatever it is.. takes 6 or 8 or so pictures in rapid succession to grab the action). Good in varying light settings, selectable between ISO 100, 200, 400 speeds, blah blah.

Very cool little unit. $200-$250 IIRC, and a good buy.

See the McKelvey pics n' such.. most of those were taken with the new cam (some from the old DC3200, which I now carry and use in the shop).

Jenni did a great job with the pictures

You did a good job on the wall. You were smoother. Your tires have always been a lot better on that wall than mine. No question. Heck, you were climbing that wall with open diffs when I had a locker, so with your locked rear, so much the better.

Not sure if you were faster up the wall, but definitely smoother.

Not sure where I went wrong on the climb. I went into it easy, blipped the throttle right as the rear hit, and I think the rear hooked up better than I expected because I really shot up the wall...
