Interesting. That's an area that was fixed at the Clean Up - the lower hill side was falling away. I noticed a rock had been dragged down for fill. Guess it weakened the uphill side.

Still... this is way better than it was. If someone is up there, they should do what they can to minimize traffic to the uphill side.

Since there is no possibility for a bypass here, I imagine it will get smoothed fairly quickly:D

Work in Progress....i noticed 7 rocks that were new but could not figure out how they came down with the big ones. So this was done on the cleanup? It must of weakened the support of the others

I was up there Friday. I went past that rock and noticed it was leaning out away from the hill. Upon my return from Spider lake it had fallen into the trail. I made it over in my rig just fine but stacked a few rocks for anyone else. I pulled the rock under the passenger front tire of the cruiser in the first pic, back about 6" with my winch to try and lay the rocks down. It should flatten out nicely.

Because someone in their new TJ wont be able to make it over this new rock during the next Jamboree and they will dynomite this rock further paving the rubicon.

Anymore questions? :flipoff2:

All kidding aside, because it's an area of the trail that has no potential for a bypass without taking out a lot of the manzanita bushes up hill. Because we're trying to keep people on the trail. Because we're trying to keep the trail open.

The rock work that was done during Clean Up was necessary to keep the trail from eroding further. Unfortunately more rocks fell in. They need to flatten out a bit to allow the Jambo's through - if that's what it'll take to keep the trail open... great.

It's not really that big of a new obstacle anyway. :flipoff2:

No prob. We were laughing when we thought about your guys faces when you found that rock the next day. It sure did catch my attention. Glad it didnt fall on my rig while I was driving in.

Basicly the reason why we worked on that section during the clean up was to make that section less dangerous. By putting the large rocks on the low side we thought it would keep the less experianced drivers from falling off the edge which is a prety good fall. There was an accident there this year (a bad one) and has been alot of others over the years. However, the new rocks really just made it a much better obsticle, but less dangerous as well. I kinda figured those other rocks would fall though.

I always had a feeling that those uphill side rocks would roll someday over the last few years and on me....LOL. I am glad that it did not happen when anyone was under them... ...that would of hurt.
The cleanup crew also did a super job in Oct. when they filled the lower side...no one likes to go for a sidehill ride as it was before.

Me and Crust got to enjoy the new obstical also. It actually is pretty cool. It has a couple cool line to play with to get over it.

But it will be gone after the next Jambo. We need to do something about the traffic that the jambo brings to the trail. I agree it should be limited to 200 rigs.

The Jamboree is a huge problem and it destroys the trail. And the amount of people will just keep going up. I dont understand why so many people want to go to it anyway...

Great. More infighting amongst four-wheelers.

Picking a fight with the jamboree organization is pretty short-sighted, especially when they own much of the land through which the Rubicon trail passes. We need to work harder on common interests instead of stirring up dissent.

Imagine the greenies and closurists -- they are watching this negativity within different 'wheeling factions and rubbing heir hands together with glee. :(

ANYONE can apply for a parade permit and get it. When they do the road is CLOSED for that time. This is what JJ does so the amount of vehicles should not matter. If it was not for JJ there would BE NO RUBICON. Do not lose sight of that.

Not driving IN the lake but a low lying collection spot on the trail:D

MellowYellow
12-03-2002, 09:39 AM
To those that fixed that spot, thank you!
I have always hated that spot. It is one of the few parts of the Rubicon that gives me the Heebie-jeebies.
As for the Rubicon Jamboree, well I think it is a good thing for the Rubicon. They have a Rock-roller at every tough spot and people hardly spin a tire. Yes, they have a lot of people, but the more people that go up there (without making a mess) the more likely we’ll keep the trail open.

What types of people go on the Jaborees? $$$
What does it take to keep a trail open? $$$ and lots of people

Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

As for why people want to go on these, well if a few $300 doesn’t hurt your wallet too much, then it is a nice 2-3 day all you can eat party.

dude your talking out your ass. have you ever been ?

i have and i can say from first hand knowledge that the traffic on the rubicon is far less during jamboree than many other big weekends. and as far as why people go?............because it is a great event, one which i hope i get to go for many years to come. contrary to your belief the people that attent jamboree are cabable wheelers. just because they are old school 33" tire jeepers does not mean they don't understand the importance of proper trail ettiquite. i would rather see a obstacle stacked with rocks so they can get over it than blazing a bypass.

I'm with Camo on this one. Besides I am one of those old schoolers. Try 31's sprung under, no p/s, no lockers. It's called retro wheel'n and it is fun, everyone should try it. Besides it will really show what kind of driver you are.;)

Well, Jeff is right. I was on the crew with BR and Howdyshell that placed the rocks on the downhill side of the trail. Like Jeff said, it was to prevent erosion and keep us on the trail so nobody had to rescue us in the middle of the night. When we moved the last rock, unfortunately that huge boulder in the side of the hill pulled loose. We tried to stack some rocks to stabilize it, but that thing was way to huge to do anything with. I am suprised it stayed up as long as it did. Nice to see it was in three pieces after it landed, otherwise it would have taken a D-9 or TnT to get rid of it. And thank goodness that sucka did not topple on a rig, it could have been nasty!!!!

yea...i will second that...we took a brand new completely stock TJ out this summer to badlands...brought a whole new perspective to the trail...we got through alot of stuff with it...just took time...but in the end...felt like we accomplished more

Why is the rig driving around the rocks? Looks like the rigs are off the trail on the hill, more than the rocks. Take the time to fix the trail not make another bypass. Must be the angle of the camera, right.:)
