Old Scout 12-02-2002, 06:00 PM I'm looking for this style of shackle mount. I found them for 30.00 ea , but feel there is a better deal out there! I bought some 20 ton weld on shackles locally for about $10 a piece. Paul road1will 12-02-2002, 06:05 PM rockstomper sells some 1" thick weld on tabs. i forget the price but it seemed reasonable. i am still not sure that i want to run them on my front bumper im building though, i just dont trust my welds enough (yet) to weld on a 1" thick tab that is going to have several thousand pounds of force applied to it and very well might take someones life if it were to let go. FWIW... I found them at Leonards off road though, and i heard they had a sale on them for like 20ish a while back.... Hayraker 12-03-2002, 06:58 AM Clevis Sundowner 12-03-2002, 08:14 AM the ting about the Rockstomper brackets is that they are flat on the bottom, which implies that you can fillet weld it to another plate, which you can't. In order to get it to be full-strength, you need to bevel the bracket on both sides and build-up a full penetreation groove weld. now the ting about that is that you can't start a weld on the effective setion, which means that you need start and finish tabs on each side of the weld. so when you're done welding, you gotta cut the tabs off with the start/end of the welds. basically, what it takes to get a GOOD weld between the shackle bracket and whatever you use for the base plate is well worth the $30 it's gonna cost for the premade one. | |
