By the way, the photo is actually dated October 8th but may have been the development date. A history thread on Trek would be kind of nice, though it might be on Pirate somewhere already. I know it moved to Gold lakes for one or more years but don't know about the event dates over the years.

Per Randii's report, Meadow lake area is looking good and the trail is going to be sweeeet. Sign up and be part of Trek.

You can choose to sleep in a snow-cave... but i figure more people will be camping on the green grass and enjoying the blooming flowers, since the only snow that's left is in the trees. Camping will be fine in almost all of the normal places that don't have heavy tree cover.
My glass is half-full, and the folks I've talked to who are stoked about the event, they are looking forward to the 80-degree weather, not-so-distant snow-capped peaks, and a few snowball fights in the sun. C'mon up and join us, I was up there on Sunday, a little more than 24 hours ago, and there's plenty of camping available in the meadow (see pic!)
The attached pictures were taken Thursday morning 7/28... looks like good camping to me, and the view was only better on Sunday!

but dont forget 5 to 8 feet of snow turns into 2 to 4 inches of mud! will be a mud bog up there:D
jethrodeg 08-02-2011, 07:41 AM but dont forget 5 to 8 feet of snow turns into 2 to 4 inches of mud! will be a mud bog up there:D
When all of the snow melts it will leave that area under the trees damp but it will not be a mud bog. Some of those camping spots may be very useable AND dry come Trek.
slvregl 08-02-2011, 08:26 AM We have a club member up there right now that is in the camping area and is High and Dry! Looking forward to getting up there have having another great Trek this year!:D
lightfoot 08-04-2011, 07:05 PM You have a week to the big event. The road is clear of snow and the show is about to begin.

Lets see this years pics for us poor slobs who couldn't make it!:D
Tinman 08-15-2011, 09:32 AM I was so busy I didn't take a single photo of the run we led. Had a great time though. The food was wonderful, the band was kick ass, the weather perfect. I broke a spring on the return from the river on our run Saturday but made it back to camp fine. We got all our run back to camp with the only breakage being to one of the committee vehicles. Big thanks to the Norcal Crawlers for dragging him back to camp!
tallgaier 08-15-2011, 04:00 PM Great job Tinman on leading the River Run, had a fantastic time, and since no one got hurt, I had nothing to do but enjoy the scenery and the participants. Thanks to Randy, John and Barb for allowing me to volunteer on the medical staff. Looking forward to next year's Trek!
PyroZuki 08-15-2011, 06:30 PM Man, I sure hope more folks got more pictures of the last run!

randii 08-16-2011, 10:30 AM Nice pics, Steve -- I love the history of the area! While I was waiting for the rental delivery/retrieval guys to arrive on Monday, I hiked up to the summit of Hartley Butte (no more flagpole?), down past the pictographs, over to the small dam, and then into the backside of main camp. While it definitely makes sense to keep the vehicles on the trail, you gotta strap on the hiking boots to see the best stuff near Meadow Lake!
Randii
WheelingPiazza 08-16-2011, 11:04 AM Thanks Randii, I agree, I was bummed my Jeep didnt make it to Sierra Trek this year, but I had a fantastic week of hiking and working.. I was a little busy to make it to the petroglyphs, but there is always next year hehe

PG&E always maintains a minimum amount of flow to keep the fish happy.
