have 80' cj5. found out the trans is broke. the catch is the trans has ford stanped into the top cover. everything else is jeep. anybody know what ford trans it is, and what it came out of so i can a new one.

does the sr4 have ford cast into the cover? its low milage supposed to be all original??.............. does t-18 have sencrowed 1st????

t18 is unsyncho first.
SR4 has ford cast in the aluminum cover on the aluminum housing.

whole trans is aluminum.............so must be sr-4, is there any other trans that will fit in its place , easily????????

this sr-4 is junk...............did ford use a version of it in a ford ( since it says "ford" on it)?????????????????

you can replace it with a T-4, T-5 or t176, all stock application in a CJ from 81-86, with t176 the strongest.
t-18's will work, too but they cost coin. you'd be lookin at $500 for the tranny + d20 case.

yes they are interchangeable but dont bother with the t-4 or t-5. define "broke" for us while you are at it. rebuilding a manual is not that friggen hard.

Parts in Indiana for my Yota were gonna be 1300, got a rebuilt tranny in Cali for 550. SEARCH!!!!:flipoff2:
