: unflipped 300 behind an ax-15?

anyone done this? just piling ideas on swapping an HD44 into a leaf sprung XJ.....I think I have the suspension penned into my head (a hint: it is nothing that has been done here before...) but would like to ditch teh 231 in favor of a 300 unflipped to match the chebby pass drop.

do I need an adapter or is this a bot up (other than a clocking ring....or is the xj tunnel to narrow to clock it?)

Dunno about your xj tunnel but you can put the dana 300 behind an ax 15 with minimal adaptor. Some say a 7/8 ring will do it. We built mine to 1" thickness. The bolt patterns are the same so you'l end up clocking at least enough to make the adaptor ring feasible.

I've been running ax15 / dana 300 for about 10 months now mostly on road with one helluva good weekend off-road and have had no probs.

A .875 (7/8) spacer is what you need to put it in un clocked. If you want to clock it...mail me and I can set you up with some info.

Blitzed, how much spline contact do you end up with after spacing it 7/8?

You end up with the same as a t-5.t-4, ect. 2.125 (2 3/8").

i turned the alum nose cone on the t case down intell i got to the bearing and put in a sealed bearing and it bolted right up with no adapter

i retaped the case to clock it

Thanks Blitzed. One more question, are all dana 300 input shafts the same? If I look in my input shaft the splines don't go all the way to the end.

Interesting, but I don't think even a sealed bearing will keep you from loosing fluid. Or did you seal the bearing to the housing with some silicone? I think (if I remember) that the imput bearing is an interferance fit on the shaft. But even the seals on a sealed bearing don't completely seal, not like a lip seal. What I would think would happen is a little oil from the t/c would get into the bearing and wash out the grease that the bearing is packed with. Then it would slowly seep out when vehicle is parked. Then everytime you drive your are not giving that bearing proper lube (or too much lube if it gets in and can't drain properly). Hey, but if it is working for you, then maybe it is the perfect thing to do.

When I installed the Down East Flip kit on my DANA 300 it included a sealed bearing. This acts to seal in the transmission fluid (AW4 Auto in my case) from the T/C. RTV is used to seal the Transmission and the T/C together.

Have not gotten the Jeep on the road yet, did the test fitting last night with a standard CJ rotations ring, had to elongate 3 holes but the T/C is flat now. Still waiting on some small parts before I get it on the road so I can't give a first hand on how well it seals.

Someone with some miles on a flipped 300 would know if it's working or not.

Peace,

Mark

I'm lazy... bought the Advanced Adapters AX15 to Dana300 adapter ring. Has multiple clocking postions... pretty simple to bolt it up.

Yes unless you buy a new input from AA.
