Just got back from the Pacific Northwest Overland Rally (http://www.overlandrally.com/Overland_Rallies_and_Workshops/Northwest.html) in Ellensburg, Wa. Was the only Hummer out of 50+ overland vehicles (everything from dual-sport motorcycles to 2011 LR4s to built old FJ40s to monster C5500 trucks and quite a number of D110s)...the rally finished with an expedition challenge Sunday morning - extracting from mud, winching challenge, tool use, etc...all timed...well, the only Hummer in the event won :d (we took exactly 17 minutes...30 seconds ahead of 2nd place) Ended up winning a Warn Pullzall plus got a bunch of other swag throughout the event. Got to meet a ton of other offroad-oriented people, and a lot were interested in the Hummer, including whether it was really a good offroad vehicle (it is).
I got to the event following the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route (http://www.wabdr.com/)...basically driving from Oregon to Canada on unimproved (sometimes non-existant) roads. I towed my M416 trailer the whole way, and other than some unexpected oil use, the H3 ran fantastic, and had no problem towing the trailer across/around/through all kinds of off-the-beaten-path terrain.
Here's the official Overland Rally Website (http://www.overlandrally.com/Overland_Rallies_and_Workshops/Home.html). There are four events nationally, with an upcoming event in Hollister in October (link (http://www.overlandrally.com/Overland_Rallies_and_Workshops/Southwest.html))
Work commitments allowing, I'll be heading to the Hollister event to defend my Expedition Trophy, and would love to see some other Hummer owners there...it's not geared around rock-crawling or slickrock trails...more around the overland lifestyle, with great classes, trail rides, tons of vendors, and a lot of great campfire discussions.
I'll post up the official video from the event when it's finished...in the meantime, here's the video of the Overland Rally at Hollister (http://youtu.be/js9ID11F86M) from last year
