: 79 Bronco Gas Problem

My bronco is very hard to start COLD. Once I get it started (either by using starter fluid or jumping from another vehicle because the battery gets worn down from trying to start) it will run pretty good. The only other thing it does is almost stall out when I accelerate to get moving from a stop light. It has an electric fuel pump right in front of the gas tank, then goes through a fuel filter that is about 2 feet from the carb, then it goes to the 650 cfm edelbrock carb. What could be causing this problem? Should I try a new pump? Thanks for any ideas

I suspect it is the accelerator pump in the Carb. Sounds like it is not getting a good shot of gas when you hit the gas pedal.

Do these come in the rebuild kits? If not, were can I get one and how hard are they to replace? Thanks!

yes they are included in rebuild kits.

I am guessing you have the motorcraft 2150 still?

He said it is a '650 cfm edelbrock carb'

And yes, the accelerator pump is/should be in a rebuild kit.

By Edelbrock carb do you mean it is the clone of the Carter AFB 4V?

I don't know, I just bought the bronco a couple months ago and it had the carb already on. It is a 600 CFM model 1406 Edelbrock carb. Where is the cheapest place to get a rebuild kit? Does this carb have enough CFM for a 400 or should I be running a 750? thanks

My bad.

Stay with the 600. it will offer you better torque down low over the 750 unless the 400 is built up alot with a hot cam.

The Edelbrock is about as easy to rebuild as they get. Be happy it's not a Holley.

I just picked up the 1477 rebuild kit for $43 from Auto Zone and will tear into in over the next couple of weeks. I have never done one of these before, but am mechanically inclined and should do fine. Any pointers before I start? Thanks

get at least 2 cans of Berrymans Carb Clean.

Use it often to get the parts clean.
