NEW BRANDING:

The ARB Air Locker product line is receiving a new logo and branding with an exciting modern look to coincide with the announcement that 100% of the Air Locker product line now includes the patented two-piece case design, forged gears, and 5-year warranty. Incorporating the ‘A’ and ‘L’ of ‘Air Locker’ in a stylized symbol of a mountain, the new logo gives the brand a fresh revision that further strengthens an internationally renowned brand that has been synonymous with traction since 1988.

ARB Air Lockers will begin to be shipped in new boxes featuring this new logo and will be coupled with a strong print campaign to highlight the technological advancements and new warranty.

NEW TECHNOLOGY:

Never satisfied with the achievements of yesterday, our team is dedicated to the constant improvement and evolution of our superior product lines.
For the last few years, ARB’s Air Locker engineers have been quietly moving from a three-piece case design to the stronger two-piece model, in addition to packing some more innovations inside the Air Locker. Delivering a phenomenal 40% improvement in static torque strength compared to the equivalent three-piece design, the two-piece model is now available across the entire product range. This means no new ARB Air Lockers utilize the old three-piece technology.

In addition to the case design, forged gear sets are now being utilized across the entire Air Locker line. These precision gears have an increased load carrying capacity and fatigue strength. Forged gears are typically found in the most demanding applications such as heavy industrial, commercial, racing, and agriculture transmissions.

From a metallurgical standpoint, there is no stronger way to produce a gear. This is because the forging process produces a part whose internal molecular grain flow closely conforms to the shape of each individual tooth. This cannot be achieved with other manufacturing methods.

When combined with ARB’s patented “Timed Gear Design” the resulting strength of the assembly is amplified. Timing the gears means that the locking mechanism has its spline spacing synchronized with the gear tooth spacing so when the assembly locks, it always does so with the maximum tooth surface area and point of strength in contact with each other.

Housing this superior internal gear system in a two-piece case brings further benefits. Machining a case from two pieces instead of the three results in a much higher dimensional accuracy of the finished assembly. The two piece design eliminates the cylinder cap as a separate part and moves the air entry to the ring gear side of the unit, which adds huge strength and allows for a refined locking mechanism design that locks the side gear directly to the high strength flange cap. In addition, the locking ring’s location also considerably reduces the actuation and disengagement time.

The design process of an Air Locker involves countless hours of testing. Computerized Finite Element Analysis (FEA) allow the engineers to subject each Air Locker design to stress simulations much more extreme than those experienced in real life, including extreme temperature and harsh wheel spin. Prototypes are tested to ensure the strength of the Air Locker exceeds that of the axle or other driveline components. Finally, field testing is carried out with units fitted to 4WDs that operate under very harsh conditions. Some of our latest prototypes have been tested by the top drivers in the ULTRA4 Racing Series, the most challenging 4x4 racing series in North America.

The ARB Air Locker team has always been at the leading edge in development of vehicle traction solutions, but now with all of these industry leading innovations and technology, there is simply nothing to compare to this vast range of superior products.

ARB is a proud and innovative Australian manufacturer. In the last 25 years we have taken the Roberts Diff Lock from a humble, but brilliant invention to a highly evolved international product. ARB has grown the range from five part numbers, to hundreds of applications, all lovingly built in our world class, aerospace standard machine shop in Melbourne, Australia. Our dedicated team of design engineers, CNC production specialists, and 4x4 enthusiast support staff love coming to work each day to produce this product line. We have a long term commitment to continue to manufacture this line in-house at our Melbourne facility.

NEW WARRANTY:

ARB has a reputation for quality and is committed to supporting their products. From July 2013 moving forward, all two-piece Air Lockers sold are now supported by a 5 year warranty free from defects in materials and workmanship, increasing from the previous 2 year coverage.
