My experience with Davez Offroad.

Ill condense this as best I can. I am older and have money. I have built and have had almost every toy u can imagine and have delt with many shops and guys over the years. By far Dave is the worst guy I have EVER delt with. flaky, full of sh#$% and a horrible business man.
When I started my 83 pu prodject I wanted to de a 22RE swap. I found Dave and called him, he actually answered the phone....That sucked me in. I started the project by doing dual cases which in turn needed drive lines. I brought him a front and rear drive line out of a 84. He claimed that he built a fat spline front drive shaft and he could do both for me. About a week later I brought Dave a complet EFI harness for him to modify. Well nearly 2 1/2 mothes later I finally got my drive lines and EFI harness. At first dave had excuse after excuse and said that online orders took presidence over mine. So I gave him a chunk of money. week after week and bs promise after promise went by. I finally had to block my number so he would answer. still excuse after excuse. I learned that Dave does not even build drive lines. He sends then to ADCO in Shingle Springs. At the 2 1/2 month mark I told Dave I coming the next day and geting my stuff done or not. I drove to ADCO and was told my drive lines were dropped off the day b4. I went back to Daves and waited, finally the shafts showed up. The rear shaft had a IFS CV. Dave didnt use my cores, he tried to pawn some junk that he had layn there.
The EFi Harness looked like a 8 yer old did it, a rats nest of wires not even wrapped etc. dave wouldnt compensate me for the wrong CV and told me to leave the drive line so he could fix it. at that point I was done. I will NEVER do any business with Dave for any thing. His business edicate sucks, his shop is a complete pig pen, and he lies and spews BS.
PS.. ADCO fixed my drive line. They do nice work and I would do business with them again.

Wow this scares me a bit about the harness. Dave himself promoted his stand-alone harness on here many times. And so I decided to have him build mine back in January. I paid up front in full. It was a stall at first but I wasn't in a big hurry and understood that times were busy because of the hammers etc.

I didn't want to rush him because I wanted it done right. I stlil haven't received the harness. Many calls/pms etc. later I finally said I'll pick it up done or not. He said he was done and he could ship it so I didn't have to go over there. weeks later still no harness.. Good thing the ole' weber is holding up! trololololololol...

I'll go next about the awesome deal I had with Davez. I wanted a HP 3rd with a Zip locker. I posted an unrelated question on the board and Davez responded. I called him and spoke to him on the phone, he was very nice, seemed knowledgable and was eager to help. I ended up ordering the 3rd from him along with the ARB mini compressor and some FJ rotors for the front. The compressor and the rotors showed up with-in three days and his PM on the board to me provided the tracking number for the 3rd, but showed it had not shipped yet. I called and asked him about it and he said that it was not doen when Fed-Ex showed up, but it would be out that day. A week goes by, tracking number states it has not shipped. I called, left a message, no return call. I PMd him on here and got a fast PM back stating he had some issues and the 3rd would be shipped with-in a day, it wasn't. This went on for a few weeks of calling, PMing and leaving messages. Each time I was told it would be shipped that day or the next, it wasn't. Finally, when I asked for my money back, the 3rd arrived the next day. I called and sent a PM saying thanks. The 3rd sat unopened in my shop for a few weeks while I helped a buddy do some work on his FJ-40. I opened the box a few weeks later and there was no sales receipt or paperwork, I called and asked for it, was told it should be in the box but he would mail me a copy anyways, he never did. After I installed it a few weeks after getting it, I was very eager to test it, much to my surprize it did not work. Air leaked so bad it would not stop the compressor. I called, PMd and got no response. I started a thread on here and got a PM back saying he would call me on Monday ( it was Saturday). I responded, said thanks and deleted the thread. Monday came and went, no call. I went to a different shop and got some advice on how to fix it, which it now works better, still leaks air but it will get me through the summer and Trek.

I would not buy from him again, anything. I can handle the waiting, I can tolorate no contact, but I can not be lied to on more than one occasion. Then to top it off get a part that does not work. The sad part is he seems really nice on the phone and was eager to help with questions I had up to the point of this transaction. I wish him well, just not mine or my club's business.

Call Dave, leave message no call back. Post pissed of thread on here, Dave reponds, so I delete the thread, wait fo rfurther contact, which never happened. Take apart entire front end and take the part to a local shop. Get it fixed, pay shopwoner off with 12 pack of beer and away I am. I like Dave, great guy when he returns calls, but I will stick with Marlin, they have always been top notch to me and I will pay a little more for better service. I wish Dave great luck and future business, just not from me.

Hello agian. The 3rd does not work, leaks air horribly. You have two options fit it, or go to court. I know no one likes to be talked to that way, sorry. I gave you way more oppurtunities than I think you deserved based on our whole transaction. It leaks so much air that the locker will not engage. Without the locker turned on, the compressor is great. Turn on the locker and air pours out of the breather. I do not want to go to court becasue I will have to burn time at work, so I will have to ask to be paid for that as well. Please make this right without me having to go to court and email the media. I posted this issue on the forum as well, I know I said I would slam you but this is complete bs. I never even got a reciept so I can not even deal with Yukon if the mistake is theirs not yours. Please fit this, Jason

I am sorry you are having a problem with the third. I am also sorry you feel that you need to start a pm with a problem and going to court without me even replying. I am out of town for a few days but as soon as I get back I would rather send a whole new third and I can deal with what ever is wrong with that one. Let me know, Thank you

First off, I still never received that phone call, the one I asked for in the messages and on your voice mail! My line is working I just called it and it works fine. Second I never received a sales receipt, like I have asked for several times. Third, I will post all the messages, not just select parts, as I have them as well and I have saved them to my computer and even to a disc. Finnally I said it was and o-ring, which I fully admit may not be your fault, but you do not call, write or anything else to make the scenario any better. I am complaining about your customer service and the lies, not your work! I admit the mistake may not be yours, but if I buy anything I do not want to be told by the company that sold it "It was not my fault, blame the production company". I place my order 7/17....just a few days before finding this thread.....
I wait 2 weeks for any type of confirmation....
I then decide that with the time frame given, and seeing this thread, that you probably arn't in too big of a hurry on my small $70 order....
I then call you and you lie to me stating "there still being fab'd" and you would call me later that day,
I wait 2 days then start calling you back leaving messages stating I want a refund....
YOU then wont return my calls, and when I sent you a shity P.M. on here you reply with: We got your massage. Sorry for the mix up, we were waiting on FedEx to pick up. We credited your card and completely understand about the shipping time.
We are very sorry the items didn't ship sooner.

I have not said anything was not my fault! its alwaysmyfault. If I spend a couple days/weeks getting jobs done, making product god forbid have to go out of town and dont returns messages (because I am not there) it all goes to shit. This week the voicemail took a crap and I am sure there will be some pissed people and its my fault the voice mail crashed.

PM sent and thanks. The invoice is the most important part should something break and need a warranty claim. The orginal iisue was fixed, but not by you as you did not call me back, that sucks to pay $1,500+ and not get good customer service. The o ring is not a big deal as it is already fixed, a little better. It dooes still leak and the compressor has to cycle every 32 seconds or so. All I want is the same as everyone else, an honest deal. Waiting is clearly not an issue with most folks in this sport, honesty is. I will wait for a long time to get good service, good parts and an honest deal. Thanks.

It seems to me that everybody knows someone that has had a terrible experiencec with Daves Offroad in Sac. I do not understand how their doors are still open with a growing list of upset customers to say the least!
In addition, it seems that every offroading site has a sellers section that has a long list of horror stories from Daves Offroad and nightmares made worse.
I am sad to say that I have a story to share as well... I have a 1989 4runner (first gen) that has been in storage for over a year now and is a bigger project now than when it was brought to Daves Offroad. Besides months of waiting, which apparently is typical for this shop, my "Daves rebuilt engine", the 3.0L v6 engine seized entirely just shy of 2000 miles. It was brought in to install a 4cyl tcase with 4.7 gears, a v6 to 4cyl adaptor for the tcase, dual case crossmember, and motor rebuild. Needless to say, this is thousands upon thousands in Daves pocket, just to have the motor seize shortly after. Was that enough? No, the 4runner had to be picked up as well after sitting for months at their shop without work being done and a bill that was out of this world. Does Daves Offroad care about making a bad situation right? No, because that would require redoing bad work. At this point, I am not even sure if I would want their shop to touch the 4runner again and repair what they should have free of charge.
On that note, let me recommend Yodaman of Santa Rosa, A1 customer service and far more knowledgeable, not to mention same month turnaround on extensive engine repairs!!
I guess the lesson here is...

Before you decide to give up, give the busy bastard a chance. I know some of you have had longer than normal experiences, but the dude is a one-man shop! I know he's SLAMMED with work and short handed. I ordered a set of tube doors from him a few months ago. I knew he was slammed and short handed, so I ordered them well in advance. I won't need them til next summer, as winter has hit, here in MT. I got a hold of him today which can be hard to do, but he shipped them out today and gave me a trackin number. I double checked the number to make sure and they actually shipped toay!!!!

Y'all need to realize he's not a HUGE parts store. He doesn't have 10 people workin for him and hundreds of each part number just sittin on the shelf


If you think you'll need the part, order it in advance, stop bein in such a rush!

And your personal experience with DORP is?

Both of my DORP drive lines have served me better than well! I got them in a timely manner (as I ordered them in advance) and are stupid beefy!!! If I ever ruined one, I would order another, in a heartbeat! I have yet to see another drive line of the same quality.
