dual ultimate cheap was the title so i clicked on it, it said that he had a toyota dual case setup with marlin's adaptor and a 23 spline rear case with marlin's 4.7 gear set for $850, good deal right, so i jumped on it and drove from socal to phoenix and picked it up, i made sure everything worked properly and he gave me a recipt from marlin crawler wich shows the purchase of the adaptor and the 23 spline 4.7 gear set. so i get it home and the next morning i decide to check the gear ratios. i locked bolth cases in low marked the input and output shaft and spun the input shaft, it spun just over 5 times to make 1 full rotation on the output shaft when it should have been 10 times if the gear ratios were what he said they were. i seperated the cases and checked them bolth, they were 2.28 gears in bolth cases.i pm'd him and let him know what i found and to get ahold of me asap. he pm'd me back asking how i thought it had 2.28 gears so i explained to him how i knew and after i proved it to him he deleted his original post and has not contacted me in any way will not return phonecalls, i sent him a pm saying that i wanted the 4.7 gear set or $200 back which is half the price of of a new 4.7 gear set from marlin. i think that is more than fair but he wont get back to me at all.

First off id like to defend myself.

I replied to frank immediately multiple times over the issue

I posted sold on that post on 4/20 the very next day I wasn't trying to cover anything up. I can re edit the post if you want.

when frank purchased the cases from me I explained to him thourally that I did not build the 4.7 case and I had no idea of its condition and that I could not guarantee that it didn't have any issues leaks, cracks, damaged teath etc.
I told him that I built the range box and that it wont leak and has no issues. I told him that I spun the cases through all the gears and that it made no noise but that's as far as I knew.
I gave him the receipt from marlin from the person I purchased the case from.

To my knowledge when I got the case it had a 4.7 gear set in it and when I sold it it had a 4.7 gear set in it.
What frank claims the rear case is is a stock 2.28 gear. the problem with that is Toyota never made a 23spline top shift transfercase they made a forward shift 23spline case that was installed behind the turbo trans. and the case that was sold was obviously a top shift case since it was the rear case in a dual set up.

the only way a top shift 2.28 set up is even possible is if you stripped a top 21spline and forward 23spline case and changed there internals regrind shift rails etc. Far too much work if you ask me.

Now I'm not calling frank a liar just like he shouldn't be calling me a thief.

I have been trying to reach the person that sold me the cases to get some more input from him.

when I bought the cases the previous owner sent me pics of the 4.7 case being built. including the ground down shift collars, enlarged housing, and imput # from marlin. that was 1.5 years ago so I'm trying to find those pics.

well then, if you honestly didn't know, it's just an honest mistake. On that note, you should either take him up on his offer to split the cost of the gears and you recoup it from the last guy, or you need to send him his money back and get the dual setup back. I'm not sure why this is such a hard concept for people to understand. If the case sold to you was not what was represented, then you need to call that person out and straighten that out yourself, not pass the buck and make yourself look bad.

On that note, I do find it hard to believe that you had possesion of the case setup0 for a year and a half, and you said you built the range box yourself, but had no idea that the rear case did not actually contain 4.7s. I'm throwing up the bullshit flag here.

Since what you advertized was incorrect, you should take him up on his offer or refund the money.

regardless of whether the OP got the ratio exactly right or not, from his observation it is NOT the 4.7 gear set as advertised.

offroadin88, did you spin the cases to verify ratio before you sold it, or not?

what was your knowledge based off of? did you verify with your own hands before sale to the OP? sounds like an easy check to me, and my mechanical skills are limited to bolt-on, sawzall, and hammer.

yep still 2.28, i did'nt relize that it was impossible that someone could put a 23 spline 2.28 gearset in a top shift case, those guys at marlin must be magical. if that case were 4.7 it would already be in my truck and i would be in johnson valley today, but instead it's sitting in my garage waiting for a 4.7 gearset

Ok, but when you posted a dual ultimate set up with a 4.7 gear set for sale you guaranteed that it had 4.7 gears in it. Man up and send him a 4.7 gear set or a MO for $200.

2.28 23spline inputs are available through Toyota and Marlin. No magic needed.

$200 is a very reasonable refund! PM him and find out the real reason why he cant give you $200! if its personal keep it to yourself and work something out between the both of you, if its bullshit post it.
