Systems and Gestalts

Posted 09-25-2009 at 10:09 PM by JayH (My garage)

Done for the night. The more I work on my Jeep the more I am amazed that it has been built so easily and worked so well all along. It is to the point now that when I decide to do one little ething like a belly tuck, it ends up being a major job.

This belly tuck was going to eliminate the front and rear lower control arm brackets from directly under the frame rails, move the crossmember up, clock the transfer case up above the frame rails, and install a flat skid under it all. Really...

Rear xmember

Posted 09-20-2009 at 09:40 PM by JayH (My garage)

Well, rear is bolted in place. I went to move the lower links to the new XM and damn if I don't need to triangulate them in order to get them to fit in the new space and at the new height. So, once again, more work than I even imagined I'd need to do - this time, grinding off all the old bracketry for the lowers from the rear axle and remaking it. I called six states, told them what I wanted, provided measurements, and was told, "no problem", we'll ship that today or tomorrow. Better for me certainly not having to pay...

and yet more

Posted 09-16-2009 at 09:34 PM by JayH (My garage)

Well, I got the front installed after fabbing up a transmission mount out of a 1/2 ton GM poly shackle bushing only to find that the upper arm was making contact with the floor pan at ride height. Clearanced the floor tonight and got to work on the rear.

Looks like the driveshaft is going to be close. I'm calling Tom Woods tomorrow to see if I can't get a new tubed section from the end of the splines up to the first universal joint in 2" tube as the one I have in there now was...

Nutserts and lower mounts done

Posted 09-09-2009 at 07:16 PM by JayH (My garage)

Upper mount to follow... It will all just barely fit. Will have to move brake line in order to allow upper some room to move!
