No exhaust yet

Posted 08-30-2009 at 10:45 AM by JayH (My garage)

I showed up at Randy's doorstep early yesterday morning. We talked it over and he said that to be safe I should take it back home, cut off the exhaust myself and then build the x-members before bringing it back. He'd build the exhaust around what I put in. duh!

I apologized for wasting his time and he blew it off like it happens all the time. I had been hoping to build the crossmembers and their associated link brackets in small stages and still be able to wheel in between. Doesn't...

Oh yeah, next project...

I ordered my 3.8l taurus electric fan from ebay last night for my next project after the belly pan. Shortening the front by a foot or so by removing the engine driven fan and moving the radiator to the rear of the Jeep and then cutting the front off and moving the winch back. That should be fun.

Onto the exhaust

Next step is getting the exhaust out of the way. Not only does the muffler now hang 1.75 inches below the transfer case, but the 2.5" pipe currently sits in space the new front crossmember needs to occupy. I made an appointment with Randy at Randy's Custom Exhaust in Marysville to bring the Jeep up this Saturday at 9:00. Randy's been doing all my exhaust work whether custom Jeep stuff or on my Corvette, for the last ten years. He's a good guy and an artist with pipe!

Looks like...

Went wheelin Saturday

Posted 08-25-2009 at 05:11 PM by JayH (My garage)

So, as long as I got the case all clocked and it's been two weeks since I went wheelin, I had to bolt up the x-member and take it out on the trail.

I had been looking for new trails to run for a couple months and I found a couple about three hours away. After calling some friends who were close and having them do some asking of their friends, etc, etc I had a pretty damn good feeling that I could find the trailhead on my own. I got on one of the boards local to the area and posted...

Hah!

Well, I went to bolt up the x-member and wouldn't ya know? I had clocked the sucker too far for it all to go back together. I clocked it 22 degrees thinking it was 12 degrees. dumbass.

I toyed around with the idea of cutting more of the floor out of the Jeep but in the end I ripped it all back out, changed the clocking to 12 degrees and put it all back in. This time it all went in fine and it looks like 12 degrees is going to be better over all anyway.

Taking it out...
