looks like a decent low buck solution. Just curious, why go this way instead of an entire gas tank skid like most do?

One of our designers made this a long time ago and I'm not sure why he decided to design it this way.

Why did he design it only 1/8in thick when most others are 3/16???

I'm guessing that he decided to take into account weight savings

I like it. It seems just about right for most of the wheelers out there. If you are doing bomb drops off ledges it may not be the right thing, but most people just need something to protect against loose rocks as they slide over.

For the price and ease of installation which would appeal to a lot of newbs, that's pretty cool.

Just test fitted it on a YJ, and it works! Haven't tested it on the rubicon, but if the tank isn't much different then I don't think there would be a problem

Did you test this over the stock skid or without the stock skid?

After looking more closely at the pictures and watching my buddy install his Kilby skid yesterday, I am confident that this goes over the factory skid as there are no provisions for the gas tank mounting straps in these pics. The tank mounts to the factory skid with the straps and then the skid mounts to the frame with this skid fitting over/around the factory piece.

You are indeed correct!
