Moving to North Vancouver - Looking to Rent

Greetings all. I will be moving to North Vancouver here in a month or so, and I wanted to see if anyone knew of any houses for rent? Looking for 1-2 BD with some type of garage or covered work area so that I can continue my Landcruiser addiction up North. I'm not too familiar with the area, but anything within 30-45 mins of Lonsdale would be of interest to me. I will be working on the Seymour Capilano tunnel project.

Thanks!

Evan

I live in Vail, Colorado currently so I am used to the snooty rich bitch vile scene, though I was really looking to get away from it.

What neighborhoods or suburbs do you recommend I look at?

If it wasn't for the Port Mann parking lot, Surrey would be better. I preferred out PoCo way, but that's getting away from where you want to be. I used to rent a nice place out by Alice lake about 20 years ago, but it's probably long gone

Depends on how long of a drive you wish to take to get to work. An hour outside of North Van can get you into a bit better of areas. North Van = "Save the wales, Save the Children!!"

North Van ain't that bad as being made out here but the rent will be very expensive/outrageous but being from Vail I doubt you will even flinch. PM if you want some advice. Just for shits and giggles go sit in the Tim Hortons in Mission...it's kinda like the bar in Star Wars except for worse

There are many areas in North Van that aren't rich, hell there are some that are down right poor. Rents are going to be higher in that area though.

DUDE! Way too many wookies there! I used to live in De Roche and THAT was a fun place to be! (cept having to duck when someone went on a toot and started shooting at "shadows" with REAL bullets!)

Bwahaha this is the first time I've ventured into the Canada section on Pirate. North Van is a wicked place. Need to drive out of there to get to wheeling but not too many places with real work are in immediate proximity to wheeling.

North Van people are down to earth...and majority of the people there grew up there when the housing wasn't rediculous. WEST van is very very different and fits the bill of the current conversation.

As mentioned already I'd check craigslist. Might be worth posting on bc4x4.com too and signing up on crawlinbc.com if you want to get out wheeling and see what bc has to offer.

Well I made it through the border. North Van is a really nice area, just not much here housing wise that will support my motorhead habits. Looks like the mountain bike is going to be getting a lot more use, and the FJ40 will have to stay in Washington.

Looked at a few places so far and prices range from $800-$1200. I am trying to live without roommates so that is somewhat limiting my options. I will figure out a way to get a wheeler, and I think it will come in the form of a multipurpose FJ80. Just need to scour the Washington craigslist and find a deal. Anybody ride mountain bikes?

Yup, might be headed out tomorrow. Full suspension needed for most of the stuff up here. I'm just getting back into it.

And seriously, sign up on crawlinbc.com and bc4x4.com while you're here.

I don't think I will be able to ride until I secure housing, but once I do, I will shoot you a PM over on CRIB.

#1 because I'm not going to pay 8 grand + for a 15 year old vehicle

#2 because I have no desire to adapt to driving on the right hand side of the vehicle.

The cool factor is up there, but doesn't trump the above.

Still looking for housing.

If you can handle a bit of a drive I would look at Squamish.

Found a place in Lynn Valley neighborhood, just a 10 min walk from my jobsite. Unfortunately no room for my FJ40. Hopefully I can tag along with some locals to get my wheeling fix. Thanks for the input everyone!
