Suggested importers for JDM vehicles? - Pirate4x4.Com : 4x4 and Off-Road Forum

I'm looking to buy a JDM XJ and I've been talking to an importer here in Edmonton, but I have no reference point to be able to tell if this is a good or bad company.
Has anyone dealt with a reputable importer to bring in a JDM?

This company I'm currently talking to wants 50% of the total cost of the vehicle as soon as we start the bidding process through the auctions in Japan. That dollar figure would include all costs associated with import fees, transportation, etc. The XJ's will end up costing me $6000-$8000 depending on condition.
So, I would have to fork over about $4000 before the vehicle is even shipped, let alone befoe I get to see it or get the keys.

So, any and all stories about dealings with importers, both good and bad would be appreciated.
The company I have been talking to is called Import Concern here in Edmonton, adn it seems to basically be one guy, and he sends me emails later in the evening, so I'm guessing he does this as a side job.

Why dont you pay HALF that and buy one in canada already?

Be weary of one guy side job type things. Usually the cars are messed up or hes just scamming from what I've seen.

I want to get one with lower km's and that hasn't seen a Canadian winter yet.

I figure if I get one with under 100,000 k's I'll be able to put 150-200 more on without having to do much more than regular maintenance type stuff. And eventually I may move my lift/axles over from my '98.
