How long do you wait for shipping from the US?
Ive been waiting over a month for a bunch of honda parts for my bike. Its so frustrating looking with hope to my mailbox everyday just to be let down. Its like a kid waiting for Christmas that may or may not be there in the morning.
I always have good shipping experience from Pirate vendors. Ruffstuff charges me a small shipping fee on top of their original shipping, but its always quick (within a week and a half). The Pirate4x4 store is fast as well. I ordered a camshaft from Florida and it came in 2 weeks, yet some other parts I ordered from Oregon have yet to show up after almost a month what gives? Im guessing my stuff is stuck in customs, but it also may be the fact that I am in a fairly remote location. You cant really whine about it because once it hits the boarder, its totally out of the sellers hands. So, how long do you guys usually wait for shipping from the US and other places?

anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks is a safe bet. the bigger the longer. I just got my trans cooler and stuff ( 4 weeks)from alabama. and I just got two arb repair kits from cali in just under three weeks. paid half price compared to here though. I do live in a remote area I guess. (10 hours north of TO).

One thing that might be holding up your Honda parts, the earth quake in Japan.
There are no parts for the Toyota plants in Ontario and the Honda plants are running at half shifts. Just a thought. You might be waiting longer than hoped. GG |

US Shipping
I gave up on it. I buy local when I can but, if there is a huge savings, I order shipped to a US border town, like Blaine, WA. Drive across and pick it up. I take trips that are 30 minutes long, declare everything and have never paid duty on parts (applies if they are not US made) or customs brokerage (since I get it myself) and pay tax about one quarter of the time. It's not convenient for everyone but it saves a lot of hassle and cash. Best of all, a lot of US vendors ship free within the continental US for a minimum order size.

I would guess that 99.9% of our customers have them shipped somewhere up N. and drive across to pick up their stuff. I don't understand the Canada/US thing. You guys are not Mexico. I'd guess more people in the US would rather live in Can. than here, just a guess. From a vendor stand point this is what I do not like. Brokers. Fawk'n scam if there ever was one. I've sold a lot of Rockwell axles up North. I call in freight and lets just say they tell me it is $600. So, for the time that it takes us to take the order, load it on a truck, put it on a skid, fill out the paperwork I will mark it up $20 selling the freight at $620 Sounds ok right? NOPE 9x out of 10 when I get the freight invoice it will be between 750 and 800 because of broker fees and whatever else BS they think they can throw on there. That is my b!tch with the US/Can freight program. The shipping would be MUCH less if they kept their hands out of it. I bet other people like myself now quote my freight much higher than what we are told (going into Canada) because the seller loses their @ss on the deal when a freight company will not honor their original quote. UPS small packages do not do that to us. It's the big truck freight that is killer

Shipping from U.S.
I use a place in Blaine, WA:
www.hagensofblaine.com They receive any package for about $3. There are others. You can also ship to any UPS Store, but they charge $10 per package. Shouldn't be too hard to find one. Some places won't ship to a residential address so a buddy who lives in the U.S. isn't always a help.

Driving to the border is not an option, unless I want to drive 2 days and spent hundereds on gas.
I can imagine its rough for the vendors due to the cost of fuel, truck shipping must be a killer. Shipping cost isnt my problem, usually the cost + shipping is still less than I can buy locally (local buisness hates people like me). No matter what, someone has to pay to get it shipped here, be it me or a local buisness. Im glad to see you post here, 406yj. Over the last while I noticed you've taken interest in us Canadian guys and our shipping problems. Its nice to hear the other side of the story As for my Honda Parts, they were all from American companies like Moose Racing and Weisco, whether or not theyre manufactured in Japan I dont know. Anyways, the Parts are all here and Im happy. It just took a month.

I live on the river near Sarnia between Ontario and Michigan and am over there once or twice a week, my wife and I go across for dinner weekly. I've also only filled my truck up a handful of times in Canada since I've owned it, about 15 months. Screw $1.28/litre, $4.00/gallon is where it's at. but it still hurts.

US Pricing
I also started gassing up across the border recently since it works out to about $1.10 per litre in the U.S. vs $1.39 in the Vancouver area. I can be across and back in 20-30 minutes with a Nexus card.
What really gets me is the price difference between grades. $0.15 + per litre here to go from 87 to 91 octane but about $0.18 per gallon in the U.S. My wife drives a modded Audi A4 Avant turbo and it needs 91 octane minimum. Screwed again!

At least a month if coming through the postal service.
1 week for it to get to Canada Customs. 1 week to 3+ months at customs (Yes, I had a package held hostage for 3 months (this was not holiday season, all paper work present, no added duties tacked on). 1-2 weeks to get to me depending on where it enters Canada. For some reason stuff coming from the west coast gets to me faster, even though I'm a couple hours from the Niagara sorting facility. Alex. |

I have found vendors like diy4x and 12voltguy and even ord take a week and half giving the vendor a couple days to get the package in the mail.
USPS is cheapest I found for border fees.

i guess the retarded shipping on freight is mostly due to HomeScamSecurity for them on the way back.
the US is so scared of terrorism that they X-ray EVERY truck heading south. north is alot faster and easier. the time those guys wait in line to go back down is retarded. i'd charge more to go cross boarder too! the US is even inspecting some packages heading north, adding even more time to the post heading north. still 100000x better then dealing with the bullshit charges from UPS or FedEx. |

current Postal Customs clearing times are bad
a month stuck in customs is not unusual now. used to be only Xmas time the waits were this long. our dollar being good has everyone buying in US I guess so give a week for the vendor to ship, a week travel time, a month in Customs...it adds up if you need it faster then something like Package Express in Sumas is the way to go it is walking distance from the border crossing and you can take a handcart down to bring your stuff back. way faster then sitting in a line and having a car for Customs idiots to search through Brokerage fees are a scam, and the Brokers know it. |

I have everything sent to a box in the US now, it's about a 60 minute drive for me from home, but most of the time in the summer it's only 20 minutes. Definitely worth it just for the savings on gas nowadays.
Usually, most items include free shipping to the US, so save there, and we always spend time getting some groceries. As far as the box, it is $3 per item shipped to it. $5 per tire. |

Forgot to add, I have thought about not declaring some items a few times and never had the b*lls to do so. Not worth it, just had a friend who estimated how much he was bringing back, he under estimated by $200, but was still under what he was allowed to bring back. She told him that she could seize everything if she wanted, but since she believed that he estimated wrong, she would let it slide.
But the kicker is, he now has a little star beside his name for the next 7 years. Meaning, more than likely each time he crosses back into the country, he will get searched. |

I ship to Point Roberts, tsb shipping to be exact. I work probably a 20-30 min drive from there, so it's no biggie to hop across and pick up stuff. Shipping is always free, and I've NEVER paid taxes/duty on 5 or 6 years of shipping there on a monthly basis
