Although you guys are just as spread out as we are, how is Canada Post on shipping or UPS within Canada? I know you don't want to use UPS to ship to Canada, we only use the USPS Flat Rates to ship to Canada, using UPS to ship to Canada is like giving them a licsense to steal!

I know most of us prefer to receive by USPS/Canada Post whenever possible. Regular parcel post through Canada Post can get expensive if you let them suck yuou into optional coverages. Also they used to charge only by wieght but for the past few years they have also charged by dimensions.

Purolator is the largest (and in my opinion most reliable) courier in Canada and they have some depots in the US as well. Not sure about their customs rates but it's got to be better than the UPS gouging. I use Purolator almost exclusively at work.

I placed a $75 order with Del City last month and they screwed up and shipped it to Canada instead of Washington. $45 in UPS fees

Canada post is the least painful.

I sued UPS for over charges 2 years ago, they charged $74 on a 1' cubed package that weighed less than 2 lbs. Then sent me to collections for an aditional $50 they wanted for after shipping. Long story short, I got all the money back, screw them.

I worked as a security supervisor at the Canada post center in Calgary awhile back and discovered a little known fact. I don't remember exactly which way it was but, either Canada post own's a portion of Purolater or the other way around. They charge almost the exact same rates and, I would often see Purolater truck's bringing in CP mail/packages and CP truck's loaded with Purolater package's.

I would never use UPS ever again after the amount of time's i've received bill's from them MONTH'S after something has been delivered for supposedly unpaid insurance fee's, custom fee's, and delivery charge's. One bill stated I owed them $89 for processing a $9 customs fee. Why do we have to pay for our package's up front when they are delivered only to get another bill in the mail a month later!

Like you say Dan, we all prefer USPS/Canada Post....It takes a little longer but the flat $5 duty charge is nice when UPS and FedEx like to suprise us 1-2 months later with a $100 bill on a $50 part.

To give you an idea what our regular Canada Post rates are, I sent two CJ7 tailgate clips and two screws in a regular letter envelope 50 miles away, the charge was $7.50, takes 2-5 days. If the parcel fit through the letter slot (it almost fit) it would be 54 cents. I think you can send a shoe box through courier in the US for that amount.

I read some where that if you shup UPS priority there is no brokerage fees.

I use a mailbox across the border and drive over to get my stuff. Not practical for everyone but for me it works

Fed Ex is also a half decent route from the states, but yeah I have always had good luck usps/cp

I bring a lot of stuff into Canada and I got so fed up with UPS I drive across the border once a month and pick stuff up for myself buddies etc... thats Saturdays job!

Most of us live within a reasonable distance from the border - you know we are gathering ready to invade and take you over .

I know manufacturers of parts gush on about UPS so we are stuck with most of their stuff coming that way. I also know most Canadian manufacturers lean towards Canadian freightways to ship to the USA they seem to handle the cross border stuff the best.

You guys in the USA don't have this but we use Greyhound bus service a lot these days they pull small trailers behind the busses and hold for pick up at the depots... great for COD stuff but it must be under 70lbs. I sent a winch once Greyhound to Toronto from BC - thats like LA to New York it was 65.00.

But I have been told the USPS/CP combo never charge the duty or brokerage if it is a US made product (NAFTA).....and UPS always charges both wherever it was made. We use UPS in the states but never to Canada, I think I would ship a big parcel USPS/CP to Canada.


Now, for whats really important! Who has about 50 acres about 1.5-2hrs north of Whistler for sale?

How can USPS send something for next to nothing ,but UPS needs the $ that they charge? .... unreal

UPS delivered something [part desperately needed] to the wrong house- say that I refused it [when I had never seen it] ,still contacted me that owed a huge amount, charged the sender an additional fee to receive it back to the sender - and all in all costed me an extra 85 bucks at both ends before the seller would resend it..... needed the stuff bad- had it resent USPS -wih no problemo

UPS sucks ass, on a 200 dollar item they charged my 130 bucks brokerage fee. I never order shit that the seller says will only ship ups. Not worth my money at all.

I have found one thing out and UPS HATES when you do this, if you live in a city with an air port or customs office you can file the customs paper work yourself aka brokerage only thing is you have to do it in person all you pay is the taxes i believe and a dollar fee or something there is a few articles online, if it were feasible for me to do this I would but a 3 hour drive is not worth 75 bucks. USPS does ship stuff but they like to wreck heavy stuff. But you can ship just about anything with them.

Sounds like all us Canucks have been raped by UPS.
They sent me to collections for C.O.D charges.
I asked the guy on the other end of the phone if the package was delivered.
He said yes it was
So I asked him" If it was C.O.D., and the package was delivered, how the hell did I get the package if I didn't pay the C.O.D
All I heard on the end of the phone was AHHHH.

Yeah the only time i've ever shipped anything ups across the border was a carb, but i was to do without worring about brokeage (cause it was coming back and the lady behind the desk was really nice and let me fill out the custom's stuff) otherwise its usps/cp for cross border or canada stuff, and since the family farm is on the montana/alberta border (ie we farm around border posts close) i'll have stuff ups to sweet grass mt and pick it up there and bring it back myself, saves a fair bit time, but it can be a bit of hassle making the time to go and get it and dealing with the local port BS.

should be cheap out that way, Pemberton area is pretty much the middle of nowhere
mtns are steep so it is a fairly dark area in regards to sunlight hours

F%$# UPS. Like everyone else on here it seems, I got charged an extra $55 on $70 worth of stuff that weighed 1lb and was in a 10x10x5" box. Never again will I deal with those a$$holes.

I got another part, shipped USPS in the same general time, up front shipping charge of $14 for a $300 part that came in a 6x6x40" box and weighed 20lb.
