Questions on Rear End
I have an 85 chevy that has 14 bolts on the rear end cover, dies that mena it is a 14 bolt. I have a sheet that lists what the truck has and it says that it has a 4:56 gear ratio.
I would like to know if it is a true 14 bolt rear end, and is it a full float or semi float axel? I want to buy a locker but am not sure what to buy? |

The way to tell if it is a full floater or a semi floater is easy. If it has 6 (or 8 can't remember off the top of me head) bolts on the end of the axle, it is the full floater 14 bolt, the semi floater does not have these bolts, and is held in by c-clips inside the housing. Also, you can check the pinion. the full floater has bolts around the pinion that allow it to be removed without pulling the entire carrier, whereas the semi floater does not have any bolts behind the pinion.

Also, the senter section on the full floater is more diamond shaped, like a Dana axle.
