If you think there is a ton of smog crap on it, you probably aren't capable of modifying the harness. Tbi systems are very simple, a smog pump is not a fucking computer dude.:flipoff2:
If you stay with the 700 I would suggest rebuilding it and beefing it up. They can make some great trannies but a 454 also puts out some pretty good power.
Think I will just get the 700 built. I have a sm465 and the truck that it came out of but I don't want to go though all the trouble of cutting a hole in the floor, swapping the steering colum, swaping the clutch pedal and the hydroboost.
so going to a slushbox is easier? go from a bulletproof manual trans to a pansybox? be sure to get your purse from the coatrack when you leave. i have done this swap (auto to sm465) the pedal swap took about an afternoon. the trans tunnel cover takes a donor cover and some time with a sawzall and cutting out the appropriate amount to facilitate installation of the removable cover. tons of them out there on 2wd trucks, suitable to cut your own hole for the transfer shifter.
I would go 400 instead of 700. I went through 4 700s before going 400 and never have had a problem with it in the 7 or 8 years its been in.
