I have a cylinder head question for you. I'm looking at a set of aluminum heads and they say they're set up for plus .100 valves and push rods. The valves and push rods I have are standard length, will this work or do i need to have the spring pads machined down .100?
I have new 2.02/1.60 RHS stainless valves and COMP Magnum pushrods planned on rebuilding a set of 487X heads, but came across the aluminum heads cheap but they are bare. Just need to know if they will work so I dont have to send all of this stuff back.
Does that matter? Yes they are cheap heads I know but we've used a lot of their rods in dirt track motors with no problems, so i figured I'd give them a chance. We're talking a $100 difference in these or redoing a 40 year old set of iron heads
check with a local, good rebuild shop. I just put the procomp heads on my motor, not the plus .100 ones just the regular ones. they look good. I got the valves from the same vender. I did get the bare heads and asembled them myself.I was in the same boat as you. get some iron heads and rebuild,or buy new irons or get the alu ones. I have $550 into mine. I have not ran it yet.
Listen to Grumpy: Get the proper valves and pushrods. The longer parts are needed to achieve the proper rocker geometry with your heads. Fuck with it at your own peril...
I've done 4 LS swaps into A-bodies as well as a heads, cam, and intake builds on LS F-bodies including a 1391WHP T/A with a 22lb cog driven F1R 434ci LSX! I think I can handle it! :flipoff2:
idk man I had a 383 once. With those heads id try putting in some washers.
