Ok so we all know of the Eldorado and Driveline brakes but is there anything different and affordable out there?
I saw that Ruff Stuff was contemplating doing a dual caliper setup for the 14 bolts and was wondering if there is a spot type caliper that would fit the chevy style mounts.
I like the idea of having an independent mechanical brake on the rotor.
How awesome would it be if you can run a combination of Chevy calipers and some mechanical spot calipers on the other side of the bracket. Have the best of both worlds without sacrificing anything.
I went the most straightforward route: I got a 14bff out of a wrecked 03 3/4 ton. Factory disk brakes and a real working parking brake, all for $300. :grinpimp:

how are you guys liking those ebrakes out of the newer trucks? was thinking of doing somthing like that untill i bought a 2006 dmax and the e-brake dont hold for shit. flat ground its fine but with a trailer on a incline with load they suck
I have the large El Dorado E-brake calipers and they work pretty well, you just have to adjust them properly. I also have forklift style handbrake lever so that might help.
i put the new style twin pistion calipers on my 93 dually, great brakes but no parking brake plus the truck is a manual, im looking for a parking brake option as well, thought of the line lock but that could bleed off, to bad manuals didnt have a park function like autos :flipoff2:
There's a guy in the Sacto area with a Scout, running a 14FF, what he did was route his park brake cable back into the cab, made a loop in the cable, and put a eye-bolt through the regular brake pedal arm. To set the brake, he presses the brake pedal, and pulls the park brake handle. effectively applying a mechanical type of a "line-loc".
So no one has used a spot caliper in conjunction with the regular chevy brakes?
I have my axle already built.... both of them (two different trucks) and want to add an e-brake. Ill probably do the HAD t-case brake on one but the other I just want to add on a spot caliper.
ive bought a 03 14 ff bolt too.4.10s to match my hp60 and discs with a easy working mechanical ebrake you cant go wrong. I dont know why some people think it wont hold a load there are 3 tow rigs around me chevy and dodge that have the newer disc with inner drum parking brake setup and ive seen them unload there rigs on trailers with that brake and the truck didnt budge. I would assume that if gm and dodge thought it would be a death hazard they wouldnt use this setup under there 1 tons capible of towing over 20,000 lbs. they are small (8.00 by 1.65 inches) but they work great.
the sf 14 under my 02 has the same design system and it would lock up my 33s unloaded on a dime if I made it. plus in your area there not hard to find I got my 14 bolt ff in harward a year ago for 300 or 350 bucks i cant remember. and there all factory parts becoming less harder to find as these newer trucks get retired. i donno seemed like a no brainer for me. just my opinion
heres a post of a guy that did a swap i a 85 last december. has some picks of the brake assembly torn appart and reassembled if you want to know how they work
Yup that is my thread. Only thing I need to finish my swap is the stock 2500HD ebrake connector and bracket to connect the front cable to the rear cables. I plan on picking those up some time this week and updating that thread. :smokin:
anyone know if the 03-04 van rearends are still a little wider or not? want to do something like this in my truck but need it a little wider if possible. might as well get a van one if they are still wider like the old ones.
for you guys complaining of your e-brake not holding, there is a recall on the GM trucks. 1500 99-06 and 2500/3500 02-06 if equipped with a manual transmission. they will replace your right side cable and shoes if needed, i forget what else is involved. the duramax i just bought still has the open recall and it doesnt expire, no time or milage limit.
well it looks like the 01 up vans have about a 70" width, but the one was a 3500, and had a D70, and the other was a 2500 8lug, and was a D60. there was also a 2500 light duty, it had a 6lug rear. not sure if the cutaway 3500's have 14bolts or not. may have to just get a truck one.
I did something a little different. I found a ball valve (rated at 10,000psi) at McMaster-Carr. So far it works but my truck hasn't moved. We will be at KOH and I will see how well it works.
Me like you guys have no interest in changing/replacing my DS to run that driveline brake. The only way I would do that is if they offered a kit $2-300 that would include all the parts needed to run the brakes. That would NOT change your rear DS, for those of us that run a conventional DS with a single joint on each end with a slip in the shaft.
will the newer 14b disks with the parking brake work on an older 14b dually?
trying to help a friend figure out how to get disk brakes and a parking brake on his dually 14b, dont want to mess with new drive lines etc for a dl p-brake.
only if you're willing to cut off the flange and weld a new one on(Its ALOT bigger), then use the newer hub, etc. much easier and probably cheaper in the long run to just get the one with disk on it already and swap your gears in if they're different. got one last week to put in my truck.
This thread seems a lil dead so this may be pointless to post. I recently installed a 14 bolt under my '02 Chevy Trailblazer. When I removed my stock axle I noticed the backing plate pattern looked very close to the older 14 bolts. I have an Eaton HO72 that I used to check if my Trailblazer backing plate lines up. I'm not sure if the Eaton and the 14 bolt have the same flange either. Turns out my Trailblazer plate fits perfectly.
I know in the pic the bolt holes look off, but they're not, I have the pics to prove it if you want. The bolts are even the same size, just different thread.
I'll be acquiring another 14 bolt in a few weeks so I can verify. Maybe if someone wants to check; the bolt holes are 3 3/8 apart. Just another idea if someone wants disc brakes with e brake.
So do trailbazer rear brakes work on 14 bolts? ^^^^^^^
