Ok, this isn't going into a 4wd, but there are some pretty smart guys on here...
The car is a 1978 Pontiac Phoenix (think 4th Gen Nova, but uglier). It's just a cheap ass weekend play toy with maybe some time at the track on test and tune nights. Call it 3500 lbs with a turbo 350 and an limited slip 8.8 in 3.73 or 4.1 flavor...I have my pick. No converter yet...that will follow the engine (so suggestions there are appreciated too. ).
I got an engine on the cheap. It's a 97 block with a cheap Eagle rotating assembly...the cast steel crank, 5140 rods, and 12 cc dished Speed-Pro hypereutectic piston variety (the $600 rotating assembly). The thing was a basket case so I'll pull it all down and clean it all up...cut the deck and the heads to get about .035-.040 quench and right around 10:1 SCR depending on just how much gets cut. The heads are 062 Vortecs with stock size 1.94/1.60 valves with a 3 angle and the guides cut to clear ~.535 lift at the valve. It has the LT4 retainer/Z-28 spring kit from Scoggins-Dickey. There is no work to the heads other than cleaning up some really minor flash and pinning the studs.
The intake will be either an Air Gap or a single plane like a Vic Jr. The carb is up in the air because I haven't found the right deal on the right carb yet . I'm cheap...
So far I'm looking at the XE282-HR from comp or an Isky 201272/282. Thoughts? Suggestions? Other ideas?
