1979 K5 build.. goodbye suburban..

whats up all?

so ive been screwing around with the suburban i cut in half, i like the way it turned out but ive been chasing leaks and just happened to crack a 700r4 in half going up the driveway in reverse. I think it was already cracked and the frame is twisted. ive been thru a few driveshafts, a couple 700s.. im done.

So.. the new rig is a 79 K5 stock. some engine work, headers and such. drives great but i need to swap the dash as it came from canada.. so the reading is in Km with little mph..

Since this is a fulltime 4wd (i didnt know until my neighbor told me) and i want to take the lift from the suburban, i think im just going to swap the whole front end instead of just the lift, as well as the tcase.

Question.. i think i have a np208 in the burb, its a 1990 350 700r4.. will it bolt to the tranny in the 79? it shows 3 on the tree so im assuming th350..

edit: after reading more i see i might have a 241, and i have either a th350 or 400, will it bolt to either of those transmissions?
ill post pics tomorrow, its dark

there she is.. and here my the suburban for reference..

i had fun buildin her.. but i think the frame is tweaked and its causing lots of driveline issues..

the the grills from my year to the 90 are different heights... so when i went to mock up the bumper..

Blazer

Burb

it didnt look right at all. So now im swapping both front clips. Ive been going back and forth about it, until i test fit the bumper.

so in the next three days, weather permitting the Blazer is getting the entire suburban front end, possibly even the doors so i have electric doors and locks idk yet.

i also have a spare tire carrier from a project and it came in handy to day

homemade breaker bar. it only cost me 15 bucks at the junkyard so im going to cut it up more and take advantage of the curves to bolts in tight spots.

and this is going to be the new color scheme.. flat tan with black trim.

no that case wont work. the output shaft out of the th350 is going to be really short. one way to tell is look at the adapter on the suburban its going to be like 3-4 inches thick, and then lay under the blazer, the one on the th350/np203 is going to be like 3/4 inch thick. you need to use that adpater off the 700r4 so you need a extra 3 inches (i wish i had a dollar for everytime i heard that)

but if your swapping crap over, you can steal the trans out of the suburban or take the th350 out and bring it to a transmission shop and have them swap in a longer tailshaft, costed me about 100 last time i did this

ive basically went through this exact same situation a while back

^thank you very much for sharing that with me!

So my biggest problem is the 700r4 is cracked in half, otherwise id use that whole setup.

So then the wheels got to turning and i am curious if out of the 3 tcases i have, the blazer 203, the burb 241 and another 205 (i think i have to go to my storage and look) if i can make a doubler since im already gonna be doing work on the th350. I would love to swap out for a 4 speed manual and some better axles, so for the time being i might slow down and plan this out a little better. i tend to really rush into things, im between doctors (the VA is f'n slow!) and my adhd gets pretty bad sometimes. Ill just head first into something and never finish it. So i guess growing up a little bit im gonna take a breath and really plan this build out..

yeah from what i seen if that th350 is set up for the np203. it has the smallest shaft/adapter ive ever seen so you cant put anything behind it. the 205 wont work either

Cool rig man! Good to see another 79 K5. I have one as well and love it.
Can't you get different adaptors to fit the np205 or 241?

In one of my trucks I had a th350/203 combo, found a 27 spline 205 and adapter. It bolted right up with no problem and has worked ever since.

I picked up a '75 K5 recently and it is also equipped w/ 350/203. I found a np241 for cheap that I want to put in the blazer. Is this not a direct replacement for the 203? If not what adapter and/or trans tailshaft should I get to make this work?
