diesel to gas conversion questions!!
Hello Members, just pick up an 83 k10 diesel that someone started the engine swap on and left it half way done. i am putting a 350 out of a 74 chevy. i am to the point were i have bolted everything up and need to put fuel in the tanks.
first question. can i use the sending units that are already inside the fuel tanks or do i need gas units. i checked and they look different. next question. the 350 that got dropped in there has the serpentine belt swap done to it. and the wire connector at the alternator is different. can someone tell me how to properly connect those wires? the new alternator has the oval 4 prong/2 wire connector and the existing connector for the 83 model alternator is the 2 prong/2 fat wire style. any help and input will be greatly appreciated. also any heads up on what to look for after the swap is complete. thanks guys, Robert |

Sendig unit shouldnt matter, As for wiring the alt, Its easy to remove the pulley from the serpatine alternator and install it on the right alternator with the correct connection.

im using the stock sending unit, i just hooked up a electric pump and sucked out the rest of the diesel then filled the tank full of gas then pumped out the lines again. the problem i had though is the tank doesnt vent properly. my genius way around that was drilling a small hole in the gas cap, i rarely drive the truck so havent messed with fixing it right yet
as far as the alternator goes. i just used the wiring harness out of a gas truck |

#rawkon the alternator housings are different and they done bolt up the same way on the bracket for the serpentine system. i though about doing what you mentioned but it won't work. i have talked to a local automotive electrician and he told me the plug is for the regulator and gave me an idea on how to wire it. thanks again!!!
