I went through this thread and I thought why is this in the Chevy section? Is that a Toyota engine? Then I seen the last post and now I see where this is going. I think I would have waited to put the tube over the engine after the swap so you could get the most visibility as possible but it might work out.

The new heart transplant begins

Cutting the firewall for placement

its Christmas

not all the way bolted in or even near. Looking to see what else we need to cut to make way for the headers..

bye bye floorboard.. Making new mounts cause the other ones was SHITTY!!.. Very badly welded and misplaced. A big weak point..

as of now.. We have the transfer and so forth in. Going to have a problem at where the long tube header meets or goes near the front drive line.

Cool build, probably the best way and most affordable is to buy a buggy like you did then redesign like you want. You probably saved lots of $$$$ buying a used buggy. I dig your new tube work looks good! Now ditch the patio furniture grill and it will be smokin!

what are the links made out of? Cool tube work. I like the look so much better. And it looks a lot stronger as well. How is the visibility?

The links are VERY VERY cheap. The driver rear bent double the first time out thanks to a painted aluminum bar. Who'd thunk it!!.. Actually the visibility is good.. My head is about 2 inches from the roof. My buddy and I actually done the tube work (his first one).. He done a great job.. Couldnt be more happy with the way it came out.. Now im looking forward to shortening it about 7-10 inches in wheelbase cause its 125 now and its way to long for what I do.. Im completely cutting off the front from motor mounts up (keeping the hood) and redoing the front. Throwing away the lawn grill and running a double frame with a upward spike to almost touch the hood.. Hopefully with a lil planning I can do it..

front axle looks like a closed knuckle drum brake Dana 60? Are you doing anything with that? Or leaving it since it's offroad only?

Any plans to upgrade/replace the short, tractor heim track bar(panhard bar)? I would think you'd get a lot more articulation if you added some length to it.

I agree on that. Also in the pic where you're flexed out on the back of the truggy it looks like that right rear air shock is bottomed totaly out. Could be a failure point in a bad roll or if your a rock bouncer kinda guy. Might need a bump stop or increase the charge in them... Rear upper hiems look kinda small too. Not tryin to nit pic your shit. Im all for a "Formula Chevy" style buggy it should beat the Ftoys in a nutswinging contest.

Talking

As for now.. I'm leaving the closed knuckle drum.. It works good enough for me.. And I AGREE!!. I need some sort of bump stop. The 22R that was pushing it was crawler speed only. When I down graded from a 305 TBI, even tho it wasn't ate up with power it still had lots more than the 22R. All my buddies run a 22r and I figured "what the hell". But soon realized its not for me. and I do need to make the pan-hard bar a lot longer.. I am planning on completely cutting off the lower front section this winter when riding season is out.. And at that time Im going to delete about 10 inches of whee-base as well.. as of now its 125 inches... I'm goaling for around 115-117 inches and at that time (income taxes pending lol) I'll upgrade my heim joints.

You're cage design looks
Those axles were a good match for the 'lil 22R. Now that you way upgraded the motor's HP, you should at least think about swapping in cromo shafts for those M715 axles. Now, finding someone to cut you course splined shafts may be a problem. Or, you may need to just swap, if that's possible, the side gears in each of your carriers to get fine splines.

Pretty much bad. I think the shafts are comparable to a 44, the obvious drum brakes, coarse splined, and I think next to impossible to find parts for, as they are unlike all other 60's, other than gear sets

Adding some bracing now.. Something that this frame should have had in the beginning. Adding 3-4 per side..
