I have had a 4l60e over hauled 3 times. First time I paid for R/R and everything cost me just under $1500. Second time I did the R/R and paid just under $1000 to have it rebult. Third time I just bought a junk yard tranny for $450. It lasted about 6 months, but I thought that was worth it, I mean it is easy to R/R. Fourth and final time I cracked the case on the Rubicon and said ENOUGH, and just finished swaping to a sm465 4 speed manual. Its AWSOME much better.
My point is, and I am sure you were wondering, AAMCO sucks $2400 is to much $$$$ specialy when you can get a brand new one from summit for about $1500. Check around I am sure you can get some one to rebuild it for under $1000, if not ship it to me and I will have my guy do it. That would still be cheaper. Also the best deal I ever found was a 4l60e with 22,000 miles for $850. So try your local scrap yards, but you want to know how many miles are on it. I never bought the tranny for $850 that is when I went to a sm465 which cost me $1200 complete.

Cool, let us know how it goes, I have never rebuilt a tranny myself, so I would be curious how it goes.

I have a '99 4L60E that has 5200 miles on it that I'll sell. I was going to use it for a project but it is now on hold. Also sold the vortec that went with it so it isnt doing me any good sitting in the shop. Im in michigan so it won't be too bad to ship. I'll sell it for a hell of alot cheaper than your rebuild price. If interested shoot me an e-mail. Later Tab

Well, I finally got it back together and in the truck. So far it works great. I also put in a B&M Trans Pak while I was at it. Next weekend I am going to drain it and change the filter. While I am at it, I also have a remote filter and temp guage I am going to install.
If you could see what the inside of my filter looked like you would all go and change your fluid and filter right now. I paid $190 for the kit, $195 for rebuilding the torque converter and about $25 for ATF. That puts me at $410. I had to pay AAmco $360 to take it out, pull it apart, and put it back together. And that took three and a half weeks. They didn't even have it in the truck when I went to pick it up! Took me two weeks, to the day, working on it after work. I didn't buy any special tools. I made one the that replaced 2 of them and used a hose clamp for another. |
