Eaton or 14blt
I was wondering if I should use the eaton one ton rear I have or find a 14 bolt. I like the drop out third member on the eaton but there are not a lot of lockers and gear choices for it. Also is the eaton as strong as the 14 bolt. The eaton is also a full floater. Also I already did a search and didn't come up with much of anything.
Thanks Jason

The eaton I believe has a 12'' ring gear and they are very strong but as you found out the gear selection is not all that great. The 14 bolt can go as deep as 5.13s but the only choice for a locker is a detroit unless you are going to weld. If you check just the inner pinion bearing for the eaton can run over 100. The 14 bolts are more readily available and a lot cheaper just have to stick with full width for now. I'm trying to work a deal with Tractech to get them to offer 35 spline side gears for the detroit, if they go for it then we can narrow to what ever we want!

I have an eaton in my jeep. There are 3.90's, 4.10's, 4.56's and 5.13's for them. What more do you need? There are detrois for them or you can weld it. What more do you need? Junkyards are packed with eatons and parts. The c&c hubs fit the eaton. I like the coolness factor of the giant 3rd member too.

The 12" ring gear was the H100 (10,000lb). Commonly known for its 6.17 ratio. Ended up in some heavy 1-tons, but mosty 2.5 ton vehicles - even some old 6x6's.
