Stupid TH350 question

I have what I think is a late model th350 with the Al dust cover. I was wondering if there is supposed to be a gasket or seal on it and secondly what are the threaded holes in the front of it for?? Thanks

the treaded holes are for braces that go to the motor mounts. if we are talking about the same holes i will try to get a pic for ya i also have no seal.
