Stub axle's

Is there a difference in lengths for dana 44 stub axles? I have two different sizes, one is roughly 8.5, and the other is 7.75. Has anyone ever come across this?

there is 19 splines on both stub shafts. The long shafts seem to be fine. It has full time hubs also. I can not put a dust cover on the hub, or for that fact get to the second spindle nut with the socket. I have to use a screwdriver and hammer. I am lost as to why?
