Internal or External locking Hubs?

Which is stronger an internal locking hub or an external locking hub this is going on a chevy fullsize dana 44 it has internals on it now. Thanks

All else being equal, the internal hubs are a stronger design.

I believe so also, everything is captured inside the hub itself rather than relying on 6 bolts and their tightness to turn the axle/wheel combo.

Referring to the yoke the u-joint cap is captured half wayinto the yoke and the u-bolts clamp those end caps, the locking hubs mentioned turn solely on the bolt itself. I see the same problem at work with the jeep hubs also, both early and late models coming loose and if not noticed the bolts shear off.
