6.2 half ton truck advice
....im looking at possibly trading my 86 4cyl XJ for an 82 chevy truck wit hthe 6.2 in it.....
the truck has 146,000 miles.... new injector pump and new electric fuel pump a SF14bolt and a 8 lug 10 bolt has been swapped in the truck is a granny gear 4spd... body is decent...comes with new cab corners that i just need to weld in..bed floor and sides are good.but the crossmembers on the underside of the bed are shot.... frame looks perfect....... floorboards are good i guess im asking how much would it be worth....especially if i repair the bed etc...... I was asking $1500 out of the XJ and i figure i could probably sell this for atleast that much quicker how is the 6.2?..... i know its not a power house but hows the durability, mpg etc? thanks

Without a overdrive its not a highway star. best I would expect for milage is around 16-18. if it had O drive then 20-22 if you lean on the govener it will be harder on fuel, the diesels beat the guts out of standard trannys over long periods of time.

it comes with a spare tranny...hehe..came out of the truck that the axles came out of....
it had 10 bolts front and rear with 3.08 gears......it now has the 3/4 tons with 3.73 gears.....but running 33's and 36's so that brings the milage back up some id say

I used to get 20mpg with a '84 K20 6.2, MC465, 4.10 gears and 235/75 tires...it really buzzed on the highway but it didn't take much pedal.
Yank the EGR off and get a j-code intake, remove the exhaust flappers it they are still there. add big exhaust, it'll do well if you can get the engine big air. The '82 has monster valves, but has the strongest, high-nickle block. It can crack between the valves, and the injectors are less common coarse thread ones. A real '82 block will be painted red, and is well sought out for anyone doing a buld-up. |
