Donovan......
Tell me specifics , I just found that page it rocks but didnt seem to find any tech on the actual swap , wiring harness, motor mounts , bell housing , etc. The truck is a 95 chevy 4wd dually with a worn out 6.5 diesel . I went to look at the new dodges but I would like to keep the truck if I can install a reliable cummins. The budget would probably be in the neighborhood of 7500.00 total think it can be done? thanks for your help

I measured a cummins engine the other day in a truck and the back of the head to the engine fan is around 37" if my memory serves me correctly and from the back of the engine to the intercooler it was 46". That might help out a little. My plan is to get a 12valve 94 to 98 engine because it has very little computer stuff on it if any. I have not confirmed that yet. The tranny I want is the NV5600 tranny but they are very expensive. So I believe that the bell housing on the Cummins is a SAE #2 just like the Ford powerstroke has. So what I want to do is put the ZF 6 speed behind the cummins and mount my 205 on the back of that. The ZF tranny is about $1000 less than the NV5600 and it is lighter. I believe that you can put the engine and tranny in your truck for around $7500. I hope to do this next year if money permits. I sure hope to because I am suck of this 454 that get around 7 miles per gallon.

I have a friend that does these swaps. Im planning on him doing one for me sometime shortly and like you there is little to find out on the net for info. I dont have my friends number with me right at the moment but i can email it to you once i get back to work on tues. He does these swaps into older chevy's and did have a 98 dodge dually 4x4 chassis and drivetrain that had like 1,000 miles on it. He priced the engine, 5speed, and transfer case for $5500.Ill try to get you his number by tues night

Try the TDR site (www.tdr1.com, go to forums), specifically the conversion forum. Free to view, pay to post. If you are at all serious about the swap, it is well worth the $35.

You might look into the clutch issue if you are gonna try the ZF trans. Also, if you plan to turn up the motor, don't waste money on the stock Dodge clutch--the 5 spd one ('94+) is only good for about 680 ft lbs, don't know the number on the 6 spd one, but its not spectacular either.

If you are going auto, ATS (here in town) builds them up, they also have a new triple disk lockup converter thats supposed to be the shiznit.

If you end up with the 4500, it is possible to mount the '89-'93 Dodge diesel 205 to it. Also be aware that there is a LD and a HD version of the 4500.
