5 spd-NP 205
Are there any that will hook up. The 205s out of a late 70s jimmy/blazer, to an sm465-want the extra gear. Is there a difference in length? Thanks

If your asking if a 5 speed tranny was hooked up to a 205 the answer is no. If you want to know if you can adapt a 5 speed tranny to a 205 yes you can. If you have machining skills, or know someone that does anythings possible. Advanced adapters also makes adapters for this...Anyway you look at it it gonna cost $$$$$....

Dodge used a 5 spd with the np205 behind the Cummins.. They used the Getrag but I would recomend an NVG4500 instead.. You will need the Dodge adapter to mate to the round bolt pattern on the back of the 4500 but it will bolt to your chevy T-case

I forgot about the dodges.....Getrags are hard to find but I never knew they had 205s bolted up to them...
I thought the 205 was not used after the early to mid 80's, didn't Dodge go to the NP208, NV231,231HD, NV241 & 241HD??

Dodge used the 205 through '93. I think the diesel versions are slightly different, like HD input and output. I know some of the TDR guys have done conversions, try the conversion or the first gen forum at www.tdr1.com. I think Advance Adapters also offers a conversion, might at least be able to get some info on what they use.

The Chevy NV4500 uses the same spline output shaft as the TH400. The round pattern on the Chevy NV4500 may mate to the round pattern on the TH400 version of the 205. If not redrilling the holes in the T case or the adapter might work.
I've thought of this a few times but I don't have a Chevy NV4500 to play with to try it out. |

You can use an NV4500, with an Advanced Adapters kit and mate it to a 205. Best way is to machine the 205 case to use the larger input bearing and input gear from a th400. they are readily available, and its the strongest setup for this conversion. I will be doing a NV450 to a 203 to a 205 doubler setup. Most of the parts are in the garage waiting.

What parts does the Advance Adapters kit supply?
The output shaft should already mate to the 205 (32 spline) The only part I could imagine is a specially machined tail housing that mates the the 205 bolt pattern? |

The kit I think comes with a new tailhousing,and a couple adapter plates. the bolt patterns dont match, hence the need for the plates. the output shaft needs to be shortened i believe and a set collar put on to hold 5th gear in place if the harmonic dampener is removed.

I called Advance adapters and they have several kits for the Chevy NV4500 to Chevy 205 case. Different adapters for the many different 205's offered.
The TH400 version from '85-91 (circular pattern) is almost a direct bolt in. You can go 2 ways. Cut off the end of the input gear on the TC or buy their spacer plate which is 1" thick and just bolt them together. The spacer plate is $105 plus shipping. He also said there may be some mods required to the TC shifting rods or tail housing to allow the shifter to clear the tail housing. |
