Cried, then laughed, then grabbed the grinder

OK Ive been working on cars and trucks for quite awhile now. This was a stupid mistake. I had put 2 new tires on my Blazer then a month later it took a big dump on me. So then I got a 73 K20. It came with 16.5 inch rims. My Blazer had 15 inch. I bought 4, 8 lug 15x10 wheels and 2 more tires. Took it all to the shop. Later on I get a call. Guy from shop tells me... "good news is your tires are mounted, bad news is they dont fit!!" The front wheels are hitting the caliper. Well Im thinking I just wasted money on wheels and tires, so I take it home and try to put 'em on. Almost on. So I spend the rest of the evening grinding caliper and mount and got the wheel on. Tonight I'll do the other side and will be good to go. I guess the worst part is I tested a wheel on the rear before I took 'em to the shop, but for some reason didnt think of trying the front. I know this!!!! :doah:

You almost had it right.

Every once in a while we all need to make dumb mistakes to keep us in check.

Just yesterday I couldn't figure out why the courtesy lights wouldn't go out. I started testing all the switches only to discover the rear hatch dome light has a switch and it was on. DOH!!!!

if your truck is a K20 and not a K30, then you shouldn't have had any problems fitting 15x10's

I have put 15 inch wheels on 4 different 3/4 ton front axles and had to grind the calipers on all of them some more than others. On a side note I tried to put some 15 in wheels on a 8 lug 9.5 semi floating 14 bolt with the bigger brakes and the wheel would not fit they hit the drums.

You will need grinding. This is on a '95 Bronco that I just put a ford D44 HP solid in, with chevy 8 lug outers and 15x8 wheels (4.25" BS). Had to grind the caliper and bracket. Not a bunch, I have no worry about safety. But no way it would fit without grinding. Same brakes on D60 rear, so same grinding of calipers at all corners.

I have put on 15 x 10s on a 3/4 dana 44 and they fit. The same rims also fit on a 14 bolt ff. Noticed some minor scraping in the high points in the paiint... so yah.. its really close on the front end!

Well after spending a couple evenings after work grinding, I got the wheels on. Backs were no problem. It wasnt fun tho. I can definately feel it in my hands, I dunno how people can do this all day every day.

I do it every day - trick is to have a good grinder that doesnt vibrate. If I use a cheapo one at work I will feel it, if I use my craftsman 7" then not a problem - just soar forearms because its not light.
