Vin Decoder?

I am looking to do some serious suspension work to my new suburban. I want good ride hight and great flexibility. but before i break out the tools and dive in i was wondering what axles i am running and a few other details so if you know of a vin decoder for a checvy suburban please post it. And while i am here what is better for a good all around wheeler Leaf or Springs? It will definatl;y see some rocks but also mud and trails.

.
I assume you are talking about the 88 in your profile. http://brochures.slosh.com/cgi-bin/vindecoder.pl works for 1988 blazer I just punched in. The VIN isn't going to give you axles. It tells you where it was made, the year, the body style, and engine size.

Leaf vs. Springs? Good question. I would never go with springs.

According to the chart I have:

1988 GM Blazer/Pickup/Suburban
GM 10-bolt/GM 9.5" or GM 8.25" IFS / GM 9.5

unless its a HD, then a GM 10.5 in the rear

As for gear ratio, look for a tag on the cover or find the data sheet probably in the glovebox. That data sheet will have all the good info on the options it came with.
