Best 4" lift for a '73-87 3/4t 4wd?

Hey, I'm fixin to go pick up a truck a farmer gave me a week or so ago. Its a mid to late seventies Chev, 3/4t 4wd 350/sm465/205. It needs a body and a good goin' thru but I was wondering who made the best lift kit for that year and model truck. I need the rear springs to be pretty stiff and heavy duty I might put a flatbed on it and use it for towing. Cheap gets points too, or would I be better just have someone build me a set of custom rear springs cuz of the heavy duty I need and just buy the front springs and pitman arm and stuff? Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks
Brandon

P.S. I need a set of front spring hangers off the rear axle??? help.

I guess you other fellows missed this fact.. A shackle flip is not the way to go for a heavy duty truck that will be towing a lot of weight.. Tuff Country springs are ment fore more flex not a heavy load.. So the correct answer is Rough Country because they have more spring rate for what he wants.. Also that lift kit will be about the cheapest.. The complete kit is about $300 bucks and even comes with shocks..

I would still flip the shackles and run a 52" front spring,
run a couple of swaybars
the stockfront bar modified to accept endlinks something like the ORD disconnect kit
the rear I would shop the wreckers for a ford or dodge rear bar and customize to fit.

if the spring rate was too low I would add a supplemental airbag kit.
there is no reason to run around with excessive spring rates these days.
excessive spring rate pounds the entire rig plus beats the hell outa the driver.

Are you going to wheel this truck or not??? This is an extreme rockcrawling site you know. If you just want a tow rig then there are areas on here for that...or other websights.

Personaly I woulden't lift a tow rig....its just stupid...

But if you must I would do a shackle flip...and reinforce the shackle. Then add a set of airbags in the rear. For the front I probubly woulden't do 52"ers since they are so soft. I would run a bolt on kit and the stock swaybar....

real trucks have run air suspension for a few decades now. they still make rubber block suspension for those that refuse to learn

I do realize this is an extreme rockcrawler site, but being this is KY i live in and northern KY at that, I dont see many rocks beyond what I find in the pasture or down in the mountains where my mom lives... In eastern KY. I want this truck to be a capable tow rig, as well as something I can hit the mud with or if I find one of those slippery rocks I can assend them as well. I think fullsize rigs arent meant for rocks, that's why they built jeeps and toys... But for the time being, I'll stick with my '98 DD, and my old shitty farm truck.. I appreciate y'alls input

Cheap mans lift

I am sure most of you saw the post where that Mudterrain guy wanted to lift his 86 S-10 Blazer with a homemade lift blocks and torsion bar cranking.
I think the 2x4 idea works for lift. Like he said, 36" of 2x4s to clear 49" tires.

Well I come here and ask a serious honest question, and all I get is hacked on by people... Why try to lighten the mood when I would seriously love to hear some feedback from some people... Would I be better to get the shackle flip kit, then have my springs stiffened up add some more leafs to them to get them back to around the capacity I need. These are the things running around in my head. I also need a set of front spring hangers for the rear springs if anyone has a spare set laying around
Brandon

I gave you good advise on what will be the best set up to handle the task you described and be the cheapest way to go..

I know, I read that and looked up the prices on those parts, seems like what I want to do... I'm still not sure tho, will a lift spring have a good enough rate to say, pull a car trailer? I mean, as long as it is stiff it should be pretty good, but if it's a lift spring, then just squats it aint gonna do me nary any good. I guess hence you recommending the rough country. Thanks again guys
Brandon

If you don't go over a 6 inch lift then towing with it will be fine.. Granted a lifted truck is not the best for towing but people have been doing it for years with no problem.. I have towed car trailers, boats, and plenty of other stuff with no issues..

The Rough Country springs have about the heaviest spring rate unless you get some custom made which = $$.. You can always get helper springs to go along with them if you felt they weren't enough but I don't think you will.. Or air bags like the others mentioned but you said cheap and IMO you don't need them..
